Mary Fitzgerald, 43, opened up about her devastating miscarriage and the long road to recovery. Speaking exclusively to We while promoting season 7 of Selling Sunset, she revealed that her pregnancy loss in 2023 was a septic miscarriage that had a severe impact on her health. She expressed the immense difficulty she faced during this challenging time.

The Selling Sunset star, who had to undergo surgery following pregnancy complications, expressed, "Both emotionally and physically, it was an incredibly challenging experience for me. I needed time to reflect, mourn, and recover. It took several months, to be precise, approximately six months. But I can confidently say that I'm doing well now."

Fitzgerald announced on social media in March that she had become pregnant, but unfortunately, the pregnancy did not succeed. She shared that after her honeymoon in Bali with her husband, Romain Bonnet, in January, she experienced a miscarriage, which was partly filmed by the Selling Sunset cameras for season 7.

Recalling the painful moment, Fitzgerald explained that they were scheduled to film on the day they received the news, but Romaine contacted the production team and firmly requested that they stay away from their home. He wanted to ensure that she had some privacy and time to cope with the situation. Fitzgerald expressed gratitude for Romaine's support and protective nature during that difficult time.

In hindsight, the realtor admitted that it would have been wiser to wait until she felt secure before revealing her pregnancy. Nevertheless, she couldn't contain her excitement and shared the news. Fitzgerald acknowledged that there was a positive outcome from the loss as she and Bonnet, aged 30, became closer and stronger as a couple.

"It is truly a blessing to have a man like him by my side. He continuously surpasses my expectations and never fails to support me. His strength and remarkable ability to handle difficult situations with maturity and love amaze me. I am incredibly fortunate to have found such an exceptional partner."

Though Bonnet provides support, Fitzgerald still carries the emotional burden of the traumatic miscarriage as they navigate their future options.

"We are currently deliberating our next course of action as additional findings have surfaced from the MRIs and surgery performed for the miscarriage. These findings raise the potential for further complications if we were to pursue the procedure again. Hence, we are in the process of determining the best course of action."

Throughout the years, Fitzgerald has openly addressed her challenges with fertility and her aspirations to grow her family. (Fitzgerald is the mother of her 26-year-old son, Austin, from a previous relationship.)

"We attempted embryo freezing once, but unfortunately, it was not successful. Consequently, we have initiated another round of the procedure," she disclosed exclusively to Us in December 2022. "However, during season 6 of [Selling Sunset], you will discover the reasons behind this decision and what unfolded. Since we were unable to complete that round, we are currently exploring the option of conceiving naturally."

She previously mentioned that if conceiving naturally does not yield positive results, they would proceed with another cycle of fertility treatments.

Fitzgerald admitted to initially having some doubts about becoming a mother again, but she has always been confident in Bonnet's abilities as a father. She believes he will excel in his role, describing him as loving, responsible, and thoughtful.
