Daredevil: Born Again faces setbacks as Marvel Studios scraps the project, leading to criticism from a former Agents of SHIELD writer.

Fans express disappointment over the cancellation and fondly remember the era of Marvel shows on Netflix. Drew Greenberg's potential critique, given his vast experience in TV writing, carries weight with fans and brings attention to the challenges of bringing Daredevil into the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Daredevil: Born Again was a response to Marvel Studios' decision to reboot the series due to its failure to meet the company's expectations. This led a former writer from Agents of SHIELD to highlight the challenges faced by Marvel Studios in its TV projects.

In 2015, Daredevil became a popular Netflix show inspired by the Marvel Comics character of the same name. The story revolved around a blind, prominent lawyer who also fought crime as a vigilante in Hell's Kitchen. He confronted notorious villains like Bullseye and The Kingpin, engaging in a dual battle. Fans highly praised the series, which aired for three seasons before its conclusion on the streaming platform. Marvel Studios later announced its intention to bring Daredevil into the Marvel Cinematic Universe through a new series, with Charlie Cox returning as the lead character.

Unfortunately, the highly anticipated release of the show in 2024 has been canceled by MCU boss Kevin Feige. Despite filming being underway before the SAG-AFTRA strike, the show has undergone significant creative changes and several contributors of Daredevil: Born Again have been let go. Drew Greenberg, a writer for the interconnected Marvel show Agents of SHIELD, took to social media to express his thoughts, which many interpreted as criticism towards Marvel Studios. Although Greenberg's post doesn't explicitly mention Daredevil: Born Again, the timing and overall tone suggest otherwise. Fans in the comments understood the underlying message, responding with humor or expressing nostalgia for the Netflix-era shows. While Greenberg lacks experience in the MCU, his writing credits include successful projects such as The OC, Star Wars: The Clone Wars, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and even DC shows like Smallville and Arrow. The latter was a highly ranked Arrowverse show that played a key role in establishing a connected TV franchise, similar to Marvel's small-screen universe that included Agents of SHIELD.

Having an extensive background as a TV writer for popular shows that cater to the same audience as the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Greenberg unquestionably possesses the authority to critique the tumultuous events occurring at Marvel Studios. If he were to voice opposition to the attempted adaptation of Daredevil: Born Again into the MCU, it would certainly strike a chord with a significant number of fans. Many of these fans have already expressed their dissatisfaction with the decision, arguing that the Netflix shows still had untapped potential and appeal that a watered-down Disney Plus version could never capture. Moreover, the creators responsible for the Netflix Marvel shows might rightfully feel excluded from the process, akin to Arrowverse creator Marc Guggenheim lamenting the time and effort he invested in building a successful franchise, only to be overlooked when it came time for the characters to join larger-scale productions.

As Feige remains unimpressed with the revised series and insists on enlisting new writers to oversee the creation of a fresh Daredevil narrative, it may be an opportune moment for the head of Marvel Studios to contemplate why Daredevil is confined to the confines of television when the character has immense potential and already possesses a dedicated fan base. Only time will reveal the true success of the resulting series, following all the turmoil that has taken place behind the scenes.
