Bernice King, the daughter of Martin Luther King Jr., has spoken out in response to Jonathan Majors comparing girlfriend Meagan Good to Coretta Scott King. "My mother wasn't a prop," Bernice, 60, wrote on Tuesday, January 9. "She was a peace advocate before she met my father and played a key role in his opposition to the Vietnam War. Please understand... my mother was a powerful influence."
Although she didn't directly mention Majors, 34, Bernice's post came shortly after the actor's interview with Good Morning America. During the interview, he lovingly referred to Good, 42, as his "Coretta." "She's an angel. She's been my rock, like Coretta [Scott King]. I feel incredibly fortunate to have her. Our relationship is still new, but I believe I've found the one," Majors shared in the pre-recorded conversation that aired on Monday, January 8.
Majors allegedly made the same comment while talking to then-girlfriend Grace Jabbari, as heard in audio played during his trial for assault and harassment charges. He was initially taken into custody in March 2023 after an alleged domestic violence dispute, and the New York Police Department stated in a release that Majors was the one responsible for the incident.
Dr. Martin Luther King and Coretta Scott King were photographed together in 1964. The authorities reported that a 33-year-old man was involved in a domestic dispute with a 30-year-old woman. The woman told the police that she had been assaulted. The man was taken into custody without any trouble. The woman had minor injuries to her head and neck and was taken to the hospital in stable condition.
After Majors was released from police custody, he maintained his innocence regarding the allegations. Following his arraignment and charges, he filed a countersuit against Jabbari in June 2023, alleging that she had caused him physical harm.
Throughout the ordeal, Good publicly stood by Majors, supporting him by attending court hearings and accompanying him during his two-week trial in December 2023. Although Jabbari testified, Majors chose not to take the stand in his own defense.

Majors was convicted of third-degree assault and harassment last month, but the jury found him not guilty of second-degree aggravated harassment.
“I couldn't believe it when the verdict was delivered. Based on the evidence from both the prosecution and our side, I couldn't understand how this was possible,” Majors expressed during his GMA interview, stating that he was "completely shocked and frightened" by the outcome of the trial.
