Mark Wahlberg found it easy to act love-struck opposite Halle Berry in their new movie, The Union.
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly on Tuesday, May 7, Wahlberg, who is 52 years old, revealed that playing Berry's former high school sweetheart felt completely natural to him.
He expressed, "I've always been a big fan of hers and have admired her work. Working with Halle is effortless and truly delightful. Anyone would go above and beyond to impress her, so naturally, I found myself eager to follow her lead like a loyal puppy."
In the Netflix film, Berry portrays Roxanne, a covert operative who recruits Mike (played by Wahlberg) for a risky mission. Wahlberg, known for his role in The Departed, described his character to EW as a "blue-collar James Bond."
Both Wahlberg and Berry have a busy schedule with exciting films in the works. Currently, Wahlberg is filming The Roman, a movie that tells the story of Julius Caesar's early years as a general in the Roman army. On the other hand, Berry is working on Maude v Maude, a spy thriller where she stars alongside Angelina Jolie.
During a discussion about their upcoming movie at the Red Sea Film Festival in December 2023, Berry mentioned that working with Jolie, who is 48 years old, wasn't always smooth sailing.
Barry revealed to Variety that they had a rocky start, but she believes it will benefit their time on screen together. She described her costar as "formidable" and expressed excitement about collaborating with another woman to create a story from their perspective.
Berry hinted that fans may discover more about the initial friction once the film is released. She teased that viewers will have to wait to uncover the truth behind the "good" story.
Berry mentioned that a common bond between them was the topic of breakups. She didn't mention which specific relationships they discussed, but noted her own marriages to David Justice, Eric Benét, and Olivier Martinez. Jolie, on the other hand, separated from Brad Pitt in 2016.
The Moonfall star revealed, "We've been having conversations about divorces and former partners. That's something we connected over."
The Union hits Netflix on August 16.
