The Surprise for Adam Scott
In 2017, Adam Scott got a huge surprise from Mark Hamill when he appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live! Though Hamill has received acclaim for his voice acting work, notably the Joker in animated DC Comics movies and shows, and for appearing in the cast of The Fall of the House of Usher as Arthur Pym, he will always be most famous for playing Luke Skywalker in the iconic Star Wars series. Among Star Wars' many fans is Scott, a trait he shares with his most famous character, Ben Wyatt in the workplace mockumentary sitcom series, Parks and Recreation.

Beyond Parks and Rec, Adam Scott has built up an impressive TV career, having played Henry Pollard in Party Down, Trevor in The Good Place, and Mark Scout, the protagonist of the Severance cast, which earned Scott an Emmy nomination. Scott also played Ed Mackenzie in Big Little Lies, the HBO show he appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live! to promote. However, a certain surprise for Scott from one Mark Hamill took center stage.
Adam Scott's appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live! was on Star Wars Day, May the 4th Be With You, as pointed out by guest host Kristen Bell (Kimmel was on paternity leave). Scott and Bell discussed that he's a huge Star Wars fan and she reminded him of an adorable story, in which a very young Scott invited Mark Hamill to his birthday party. Scott said: 'I believe it was my second birthday party, and I believe it was Empire Strikes Back coming out. I mean, I remember everything about that whole season around when Empire Strikes Back came out, and so I wrote [Hamill] a letter inviting him to my birthday party.'
The actor then went on to say that he truly thought Hamill would attend if his schedule was clear, but not being very upset when the Star Wars icon never showed up. However, Scott is cut off in the middle of his story by the booming Star Wars score, and a lightsaber-wielding Mark Hamill appears. Grinning ear to ear, a shocked Scott cries, 'No f***ing way!' Hamill greets Scott with a bow and presents him with his lightsaber. Apologizing to Scott, Hamill says: 'I'm sorry I missed your birthday. I was checking my diary, and that week I had two other birthdays, a bar mitzvah, and a supermarket opening.'
In an incredibly sweet ending to the segment, Scott, holding back tears and trying to find his words, says, 'This is, this really is one of, one of the best moments of my life.'
Honoring Healthcare Hero Chloé Ducose
Adam Scott isn't the only Star Wars fan Mark Hamill surprised on Jimmy Kimmel Live! While Jimmy Kimmel has a lot of segments, one of his best was in 2020 when the COVID-19 pandemic was raging. Kimmel featured a 'Healthcare Hero of the Week' segment in which he invited a healthcare worker onto his show. One was Chloé Ducose, a nurse from San Diego and a huge Star Wars fan, who confessed to Kimmel that she's watched the entire film series more than 10 times. Kimmel then introduced his next guest, Mark Hamill, to thank Ducose for her work. Hamill said: 'Chloé, the Force is strong with you. I applaud you for having seen the Star Wars movies more than I have... I’ve been reading about all you’ve done,” the actor continued as Ducose wiped away tears. “Six years a nurse, teaching at night, you’re in the [COVID testing] tents, I mean, that’s so great. To me, I’m a pretend hero — you’re the real-life hero. So thank you for your service.'

Kimmel then announced that Ducose would receive $10,000 from PayPal's Pay It Forward program, and that her healthcare co-workers would receive PayPal vouchers too. To cap off the heartfelt segment, Hamill told a teary-eyed Ducose he would be sending her a signed replica lightsaber. Hamill ended by saying he considers Star Wars fans family, and based on his interactions with Adam Scott and Chloé Ducose, it's easy to see why he has so many.
