Maren Morris became emotional while discussing her collaboration with her best friend, Karina Argow, for her latest project after her divorce.
During their interview on CBS Mornings on Tuesday, April 9, Morris, 33, shed tears multiple times as they talked about their friendship and their new children's book, Addie Ant Goes on an Adventure. "I’m, like, already crying. I think I’m, like, PMSing or something," the singer joked during the segment.
"Go ahead and speak for me," she playfully said to Argow, who was laughing beside her. "It's so surreal to hear your name mentioned by [Gayle King] on TV."
Morris shared that she and Argow, a former teacher, came up with the book while hanging out on her tour bus. "Karina has been incredibly supportive, and I really enjoy collaborating with her," she said excitedly. "I often write my songs with my closest friends, so working on this book together just felt natural. We've already started on book two, and we're on a roll."
King, 69, wanted to know how Morris was doing after her divorce from Ryan Hurd. Morris shared that she is doing well and credited her best friend Argow for helping her through tough times. She expressed gratitude for having someone to share her music journey with, as it can be daunting to be in the spotlight alone. Morris described their friendship as a special gift that she cherishes.
Morris and Hurd got married in 2018 after meeting in Nashville in 2013. However, they decided to end their five-year marriage in October 2023 due to irreconcilable differences. They have a son named Hayes, who was born in March 2020.

Hurd was caught off guard when his ex filed for divorce, according to a source. Despite their breakup being publicized, they came together to take their son trick-or-treating for Halloween.
Hurd completed a court-mandated parenting class in December 2023, just a month before he and Morris finalized their divorce. Court documents obtained by Us revealed that they divided their assets according to their 2018 prenuptial agreement. Morris, who shares joint custody of Hayes with Hurd, was also ordered to pay $2,100 per month in child support.
Now that the divorce is settled, Morris is looking forward to a new chapter in her life. In an exclusive interview with Us in February, she expressed her excitement about embracing her singlehood. As an artist who has been focused on her career and caring for others while on the road, she admitted that she had neglected taking care of herself.
She continued: “There’s just something so badass about reclaiming your personhood in that way. I think that that’s sort of what I was channeling when we were recording that day.”
