Maren Morris and her estranged husband Ryan Hurd spent Halloween together, along with their son Hayes. This comes just weeks after Morris filed for divorce. Morris took to Instagram to share a photo that gave fans a peek into their spooky holiday celebration. The black-and-white snapshot showed Morris and Hurd holding onto Hayes' hands as they went trick-or-treating. The 3-year-old was dressed as a dinosaur, while his parents were bundled up in jackets and jeans. (Morris used a heart emoji to cover her son's face in the photo.)
This outing brought Morris and Hurd together for the first time since their split was confirmed earlier this month. According to court documents obtained by Us, Morris filed for divorce on October 2 after being married for five years. The date of their separation coincides with the day she filed the paperwork, with "irreconcilable differences" being cited as the reason for their breakup.
Fans were taken aback by the news of the country artists, who had collaborated multiple times in the past, ending their marriage. The filing by Morris came as just as much of a surprise to Hurd, according to a source.
Ryan was caught off guard by the news, according to a confidential source who spoke solely to Us. The breakup appears to have been unexpected. Although Hurd and Morris have not publicly discussed the reasons behind their divorce, the insider suggested that the couple's contrasting personalities may have presented challenges for their future together.
Morris was seen without her wedding ring or Hurd at several events leading up to their breakup. Following the news of their divorce, she shared a photo on her Instagram Story showing her bare left hand and a mysterious quote about dealing with necessary things.
Prior to their split, Morris and Hurd openly discussed the difficulties of balancing their relationship and raising a family while constantly being on the road. In December 2022, Morris opened up on Sunday Today With Willie Geist, revealing that Hurd had been a significant source of support during her battle with postpartum depression after giving birth to Hayes in March 2020 during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic.

"I believe numerous identity crises occurred during that period," she expressed. "It wasn't solely about being a new parent and experiencing postpartum depression for the first time, which was overwhelming in itself. It was also trying to navigate through the challenges and uncertainties, while also understanding my own value without relying on external validation."
Commending her former spouse, Morris acknowledged, "He played a pivotal role in guiding me towards positivity, both through his songs and our heartfelt conversations on finding the path towards enlightenment."
Prior to filing for divorce, Hurd once again stood up for Morris, championing her decision to step away from the country music scene after her EP The Bridge was released. Taking to Instagram on September 20, he expressed his frustration with the negative attention she received online and the constant criticism of her opinions. Hurd firmly believed that his wife deserved to be celebrated rather than simply tolerated, stating that she had carried the burden for artists and fans who shared her beliefs.
