Even though This Is Us has ended, Mandy Moore's character Rebecca Pearson still remains very much alive in her thoughts, particularly as she navigates the challenges of raising her own children. "She's someone I really look up to," Moore, 39, shared with Today on Monday, December 18. "I'll often catch myself wondering, 'What would she do in this situation? How would she handle this?' She's like a gentle guiding light for me."

Moore portrayed the role of a mother of three in the drama series that was broadcasted from September 2016 to May 2022. The show depicted her journey from her childhood to becoming a new mother, raising three children, and even into her later years as an elderly.

Speaking about her character, Moore remarked, "She always knew the right thing to say, with beautiful music playing in the background. Yeah, I'm not quite as talented in that department."

She continued, "I'm doing everything I can to stay afloat. I can't believe she managed to do it with three children all at the same age. It seems impossible."

In real life, Moore is the mother of two boys: August, 2, and Oscar, 1, both with her husband Taylor Goldsmith, whom she married in November 2018.

She expressed her love for raising her boys with sensitivity and respect, hoping they will carry those traits with them as they grow. Following the birth of their first son, Moore praised Goldsmith for making parenting appear effortless.

“After the initial excitement of becoming a new parent began to fade, and the chaos of the early weeks started to calm down, and the extra help we had at the start started to decrease, the reality of being a mom became very real,” she shared with Parents magazine in November 2021. “It was daunting. Like, ‘Oh, now it’s up to me. Do I really know what I’m doing?’ And I saw my husband effortlessly embrace his role.”

Moore explained that the Dawes frontman could “get Gus to go to sleep” and “to laugh,” while she was left feeling “clumsy and awkward.”

She continued, "I felt a great deal of shame and guilt. But my friends advised me to show myself some grace and patience, and to remember that all of this is new. Suddenly, we entered a new stage and Gus favored me over my husband. And things will change again. It's like riding a roller-coaster."
