Mandy Moore is reaching out to fellow parents for advice regarding her son Gus' newly acquired skin condition.
"On Saturday morning, my adorable little boy woke up with a peculiar rash," Moore, who is 39 years old, shared on her Instagram Story on Friday, July 28. Alongside this statement, she posted a picture of her 2-year-old son licking a lollipop while at the doctor's office. "We initially suspected it could be an eczema flare-up, poison oak, or an allergic reaction."
While trying to figure out the cause and alleviate the discomfort, both she and her husband, Taylor Goldsmith, sought help from various dermatologists and even made a visit to urgent care. Eventually, Gus was diagnosed with Gianotti-Crosti syndrome, a viral childhood rash that appears suddenly. The syndrome is characterized by a rash consisting of papules and blisters on the legs, buttocks, and arms, as confirmed by the National Institute of Health. According to Moore, the rash is widespread on Gus' legs and feet, as well as the backs of his arms, causing considerable discomfort. The recommended treatment involves using a steroid cream and taking Benadryl at night. Unfortunately, the syndrome could persist for a period of 6 to 8 weeks. Moore asked if anyone else had ever experienced this condition.
The This Is Us actor, who is also a parent to 9-month-old son Ozzie with Goldsmith, 37, shared a picture of Gus' legs covered in a red rash. "Parenting can be strange and challenging, and there are times when you feel completely powerless. However, I am grateful that this is just a skin condition causing itchiness," Moore stated. "Children are strong and as long as he continues to smile, everything is alright."

Moore has openly shared her experience as a parent since the birth of Gus in February 2021, followed by Ozzie a year and a half later. In November 2022, just one month after announcing Ozzie's arrival, the actress excitedly revealed to We magazine about the resemblance of her eldest son to her husband.
"Gus is a spitting image of my husband and always has been. Everyone comments on it so much that sometimes I joke, 'I promise I was there too. I was a part of this,' " she amusingly remarked. "But as for Ozzie, we'll have to wait and see."
Moore, in addition to supporting her close-knit group of four, has actively participated in the SAG-AFTRA strike, advocating for issues that affect her @sagaftra family. In an Instagram post on July 19, she expressed her commitment to fighting for better wages and improved streaming residual checks. As stated to The Hollywood Reporter, Moore highlighted the challenges she faces in receiving meager residuals for her work on This Is Us. Reflecting on her two decades as a performer, she acknowledged the unpredictability of the entertainment industry and the necessity for a substantial solution in adapting to the changing world and business landscape.
