Mae Whitman, at 35 years old, is expecting her first baby. She excitedly revealed the news on Instagram on May 12, which happened to be Mother's Day. In the photo, she proudly shows off her baby bump alongside her former Parenthood co-stars Lauren Graham and Miles Heizer, who portrayed her mom and brother on the show.
Whitman wrote in the caption, "Not to make a parenthood episode out of it or anything but!!!" In the photo, the trio smiles at the camera with Graham placing her hands on Whitman’s shoulders. Heizer is seated behind Whitman with his hands on her stomach. The post also included screenshots of her and Graham from Parenthood, including the final episodes where Whitman’s character, Amber, was pregnant.
Whitman continued in her caption, "Mother’s Day looking a little different this year! Can’t wait to meet you, huge baby kicking my insides to filth! #ruveal." Graham, who is 57, shared the announcement on her Instagram Story.

Parenthood aired on NBC for six seasons from March 2010 to January 2015, known for its emotional storylines about cancer, marriage, and, of course, parenting. The talented cast included Lauren Graham, Miles Heizer, Erika Christensen, and Mae Whitman, as well as Peter Krause, Dax Shepard, Monica Potter, and Craig T. Nelson.
Since the final season of Parenthood in 2015, the cast, including Whitman, Graham, and Heizer, have remained close friends. Whitman even praised Graham in a 2014 interview with Glamour for their strong bond.
Whitman once shared that when she thinks of Graham, the first word that comes to mind is "life." She expressed that she can't recall what her life was like before Graham came into it, emphasizing how much Graham has influenced her existence. Whitman described Graham not just as a best friend, but as a role model, a mother figure, and a sister. She even gets emotional when talking about their relationship.
Even after their show ended, Whitman continued to show her admiration for her former castmates. In a 2015 interview with HuffPost, she spoke fondly of their bond and the impact they had on each other.
Lauren Graham is like a best friend to me, and Dax [Shepard] is like family. Miles [Heizer], who plays my brother, is actually my roommate in real life. We formed a strong bond that is unlike anything I've ever felt before.
Editor's P/S:
Mae Whitman's pregnancy announcement is a heartwarming celebration of family and the enduring bonds forged on the set of "Parenthood." The photo with her former co-stars Lauren Graham and Miles Heizer captures the love and support that surrounds her as she prepares for this new chapter in her life. Their close friendship, which has continued since the show ended in 2015, is a testament to the genuine connections formed during that time.
Whitman's journey on "Parenthood" was particularly poignant as she played the character of Amber, a young woman grappling with the challenges of parenthood. The show's exploration of emotional themes, including parenting and relationships, resonated with audiences, and Whitman's performance brought depth and authenticity to the role. It is fitting that her real-life pregnancy announcement is shared with the castmates who witnessed her growth both on and off the screen.
