Lukas Gage shared with us what he thinks people recognize him for the most. He mentioned his small apartment and his role in White Lotus season 1.

In November 2020, Gage posted a video on X where an unidentified director could be heard commenting, “These poor people live in these tiny apartments like I’m looking at his background and he’s got his TV.”

Gage quickly interrupted to inform the director that he was unmuted, and humorously added, “I know it’s a s–ty apartment, that’s why give me this job so I can get a better one.” Despite the director's apology, Gage playfully remarked, “Listen, I’m living in a 4×4 box, it’s fine, just give me the job and we’ll be fine.”

Gage posted on social media, advising people to mute themselves if they are talking negatively during Zoom meetings.

Later, the director, Tristram Shapeero, apologized to Gage in a statement.

I want to start by saying sorry to Mr. Gage for my rude comments and unprofessional conduct during the audition. I realize now that I should have given him more respect and attention. Evaluating performers for the role is my responsibility, and I know Lukas deserved better treatment.

Shapeero clarified that when he used the word "poor," he meant it in the sense of deserving sympathy, not in an economic sense. He mentioned feeling "mortified" by the situation.

Despite the public apology, Gage mentioned on SiriusXM’s Andy Cohen Live in October 2021 that he never received a personal apology from Shapeero.

The actor has made significant progress since facing apartment shaming during the call. Recently, Gage showcased his talent in the movie Road House, which is a modern version of the 1989 classic.

During my time working on Road House, I had the opportunity to learn fight choreography and stunts, as well as enjoy relaxing on the beach during my days off. I even had a surreal moment during a fight scene between Jake Gyllenhaal and Connor McGregor.

Gage, who is a fan of every season of Below Deck and dreams of living on a boat, reveals that writing is a passion of his that may surprise some people.

Gage shares that his dream project involves Todd Haynes directing and JoJo Siwa as his costar. If you want to learn more about Gage, grab the latest issue of We from newsstands today.
