In the new issue of We, Jessie James Decker, 35, openly acknowledges that, just like many other famous parents, she has experienced mom-shaming. Despite this, she shares that she used to let it affect her in the past. Jessie and her husband, former NFL player Eric Decker, 36, have been married for 10 years and are parents to Vivianne, 9, Eric Jr., 7, and Forrest, 5.
The country singer showcased her family's personal life on the E! reality series, Eric & Jessie: Game On, which aired from 2013 to 2017. However, she has faced criticism in recent years for sharing pictures of her children in swimsuits and breastfeeding while holding a glass of wine.
"It does hurt when people are unkind, but as I grow older, I no longer have time to dwell on negativity," Decker reflects. Aside from her music career, she is also the founder and designer of the clothing brand Kittenish. "With three children to nurture and care for, our focus should be on love and support for one another," she adds, emphasizing the importance of collective support.
With your music, Kittenish, and a forthcoming cookbook, you have a lot on your plate. How do you manage everything while also making time for your family?
I am well aware of my schedule and plan strategically. Recently, I scheduled my music video shoot during the time when the kids were at camp and Vivianne had an extended gymnastics practice. This way, they didn't have to be away from me for too long. Additionally, I follow a strict rule - no work after picking up the kids from school. It is crucial to have a strong support system in place as well.
“Every year you get wiser,” Decker says. “Things roll off your back more.” Dina King
Collaboration is key!
Since my husband's retirement from football, he has been lending a hand to support me in pursuing my aspirations. Additionally, my mother has been incredibly supportive, and conveniently, my sister resides nearby. It is not uncommon for me to ask, "Could you kindly pick up Forrest?" and likewise, I reciprocate the favor by assisting with her children.
What are some of the activities that your family enjoys doing together?
As a family, we love organizing talent shows in our basement, where each child gets to showcase their singing and dancing skills. Our daily routine includes gathering around the dinner table, as it holds great significance for me, and we also take the time to say our prayers together.
How do you prioritize individual time with each of your children amidst your busy schedule?
Dedicating one-on-one time with my kids holds paramount significance to me. Time seems to fly by rapidly, and it feels like just yesterday when I had Vivianne! Hence, I make it a point to create cherished memories, even during bedtime routines. I take turns going into their rooms, spending 15 to 20 minutes lying in bed with each child, engaging in conversations about their day. I offer comfort by gently rubbing their backs and singing to them. These moments of exclusive attention hold a profound significance for me and my children.
Do you have any favorite activities with each of them?
I enjoy making chocolate chip cookies with Forrest and me knowing all the ingredients from the pantry. Vivi assists me as my little helper, especially when I have to go to Target. Additionally, I find pleasure in attending Eric's games. However, during a recent basketball game, the kids humorously informed me that I am too loud! How enjoyable is it to support your children in their sporting events?
The children's success in sports is a completely new and enjoyable experience for me, as I didn't grow up in a household of athletes. They are really talented and have been winning various competitions. It's quite surprising considering my sister and I always came last in track events. Do you think their abilities resemble yours or Eric's more?
Eric Jr. resembles his father in every way, from his personality to his mannerisms. It astonishes me! Vivianne is a mixture of traits; she possesses my determination and fiery spirit, yet she exhibits a strong competitive spirit in sports. Forrest, on the other hand, mirrors me the most. He is a playful and extremely affectionate individual.
What has been your most source of pride thus far?
Vivianne recently achieved first place in gymnastics in the state of Tennessee. As her name was announced, I couldn't help but look at Eric and exclaim, "She did it! She did it!" Witnessing her dedication and immense effort, I felt an overwhelming sense of pride, knowing how much she adores the sport. It's truly emotional!
Would you consider participating in another reality show at some point down the line?
I don’t think so. I’ve gotten more protective with my kids. People are able to keep up with us on my Instagram.
Do you think they’ll follow in your showbiz footsteps?
I strongly believe that Eric will continue his dad's sporting legacy, and it seems like Vivianne is destined for the Olympics. Forrest has a passion for performing and singing. I truly desire for them to pursue their dreams, excel, and find happiness in doing what they love.
In what ways has motherhood transformed you?
I truly discovered my identity when I embraced motherhood. My precious children add a whole new dimension to my life, propelling me to reach greater heights of inspiration and unlocking my utmost creativity. In fact, their contagious enthusiasm sparked an extraordinary revelation - my upcoming Christmas EP will house an unexpected spectacle; brace yourselves for the grand cameo appearance of the Decker children, ready to make their cinematic debut!
Decker, who shares three children, Vivianne, Eric Jr., and Forrest with Eric, emphasizes their objective in life is to bring happiness to their kids. A collaboration occurred in June between Decker and Ryan Reynolds, along with his Aviation American Gin brand, to humorously address Eric's hesitancy towards undergoing a vasectomy. Can you provide an update on the current situation relating to that matter?
He refuses. He’s afraid, and he’s not good with blood or bodily fluids — he passed out two of the three times I delivered.
So could there be baby No. 4?
Three is such a good number, but anything is possible. Every month I take a deep breath because I have no idea.
You’re very close to your mom, Karen. What has she taught you about parenting?
Reconnecting with your brother, John, last year for your mom's birthday after being estranged - how do you feel about it?
Family is family. Being able to be all together and have our children together is an incredible blessing from God. My heart is full and happy.

Is it hard having family drama play out publicly?
I pay no attention to it. It's none of anyone's concern, and it is not my obligation to acknowledge it. My responsibility is to sing, bake cookies, and share whatever I desire.
Do hurtful remarks on the internet still affect you?
At first, it used to affect me emotionally. As a compassionate individual, it is inevitable for anyone to feel hurt when facing unkindness, regardless of their identity. However, currently, I no longer have the mental space to dwell on it. I simply do not care. It detracts from the happiness and wonder of life. I have the responsibility of caring for my precious children, and that is where I channel my energy.
You have been quite forthcoming about your challenges in shedding post-pregnancy weight. What motivates you to be so honest about it?
I was accustomed to observing this petite and toned figure, and my body went through significant transformation. My breasts sagged down to my belly. I desired women to understand that it is perfectly fine. You have just given birth to a baby, and it's acceptable if the weight doesn't quickly disappear.
Additionally, you openly discussed your breast augmentation in 2021.
I wanted to be real about it. My breasts didn’t look the way they did before I had kids. It made me feel good and confident and sexy.
What do you do for self-care?
Visit the gym, indulge in leisurely strolls, and enjoy relaxing bubble baths. I pour myself a glass of wine, set the ambiance with candles, and unwind with soothing music for 45 minutes. This period is essential for me to de-stress and recharge. It is something every mother deserves.
Do you have any helpful back-to-school tips or tricks?
The most difficult aspect for us is that we all have a preference for sleeping in, making it challenging to wake up at 6 a.m. To combat this, we begin preparing two weeks ahead by gradually adjusting our alarm times to 7 a.m., and then to 6:45 a.m. Additionally, I ensure that everything is prepared the night before, such as water bottles, lunch boxes, and uniforms. These are all tasks that moms typically handle.
