Luka Dončić stood out in the Dallas Mavericks' 147-97 win over the Utah Jazz on Wednesday. It wasn't a fresh pair of kicks or a new hairstyle that caught everyone's eye. It was a simple headband, and with it, came a whole new level of dominance.
During the Dallas Mavericks' 50-point victory over the Utah Jazz, Dončić had a historic performance, setting records across multiple categories despite only playing three quarters.
In just the first half, the Slovenian sensation scored 29 points, grabbed 10 rebounds, and dished out 10 assists, achieving the highest-scoring first-half triple-double in NBA history. He also made history as the first player in the league to record a 25-point triple-double before halftime.
With just over a minute left in the first half, Dončić was on the verge of making history, needing just one more rebound and assist. At 1:11, he grabbed the crucial rebound, and 12 seconds later he made his 10th assist with a pass to Dereck Lively II. Mavs fans at the American Airlines Center watched eagerly on the big screen above the court, erupting into loud cheers when Dončić finally achieved the milestone.
After the game, DonÄiÄ admitted that he knew how close he was to a first-half triple-double and was searching for it.
"Yeah, of course. I was going for that. I got to admit," he said.
Doncic achieved his 60th triple-double, surpassing NBA legend Larry Bird to claim the ninth spot on the all-time triple-double list. "It's incredible," he expressed. "I'm at a loss for words, but we all recognize the greatness of Larry Bird, so this is truly special."
In Wednesday's game, the 24-year-old scored 40 points, made 11 assists and grabbed 10 rebounds as Dallas convincingly defeated the Jazz. This marked DonÄiÄ's seventh career game with 40+ points, 10+ rebounds and 10+ assists, putting him in a tie with Wilt Chamberlain for the fourth most in NBA history.

"Everybody said (the triple-double) was the headband," DonÄiÄ - who explained he wore the headband to keep his longer hair out of his eyes - said. "I say its me."
After the game, Dallas head coach Jason Kidd praised his star guard, Dončić, saying, "I think he's really enjoyed this season. He's been competing and having fun, and his energy has been outstanding. And I think the headband is making a difference."
The Mavericks secured a crucial win at a pivotal moment, having suffered five losses in their last seven games. Key players Kyrie Irving and Tim Hardaway Jr. made their return from injury, contributing 26 and 17 points, respectively, to bolster the team's scoring threats.
