Spain prosecutors are currently conducting a preliminary investigation into Luis Rubiales, the president of the Spanish FA, for potentially committing the offense of "sexual assault." Rubiales has faced significant backlash for kissing Jenni Hermoso, a Spain forward, on the lips after their victory over England in the Women's World Cup final, which took place eight days ago.
The Prosecutors' Office of the National Court received six complaints but awaited a complaint from the player before initiating an investigation. They took action following Hermoso's statement on Friday, where she expressed her vulnerability and stated that she had been a victim of an unsolicited, sexist act without her consent.

Contrary to expectations, Rubiales did not resign from his position as Spanish FA president on Friday. Instead, he delivered a defiant speech, alleging that he was being unfairly targeted by "false feminists" in a witch-hunt against him.
The Spanish FA held a meeting on Monday labeled "extraordinary and urgent" to assess their current situation. Rubiales has been suspended by FIFA, and the Spanish FA's plea to suspend the federation by UEFA was denied. This request was made due to their complaint about the Spanish government's interference in their affairs.
Rubiales' mother, Angeles Bejar, has resorted to a peculiar action amidst the crisis by barricading herself inside a church in her son's hometown of Motril. In an act of protest against the perceived "inhuman hunt" targeting her son, she has also chosen to abstain from eating.
