Suspended Spanish FA president Luis Rubiales has announced his resignation in the midst of the controversy surrounding a kissing incident following Spain's victory in the Women's World Cup. Despite facing widespread criticism, Rubiales had initially refused to step down, following the final match against England in Sydney on August 20.
But he confirmed to the Piers Morgan Uncensored show that he will resign, saying "I cannot continue my work".
It follows the sacking of Spain manager Jorge Vilda on Tuesday.
Rubiales had already received a temporary ban of 90 days from FIFA, pending an investigation into his actions at the finale. During the trophy presentation, he kissed Jennifer Hermoso on the lips, despite her lack of consent. Rubiales, however, insisted that the act was consensual.
