Absolutely. Jonathan brought a tremendous amount of creativity and precision to developing this role. His distinctive quirkiness perfectly captures a character who operates on a genius level far beyond the norm, yet struggles with awkwardness when it comes to basic interactions. He exudes both confidence in his brilliance and technical knowledge, yet displays a certain hesitance and shyness around Renslayer, possibly due to being in an unfamiliar situation. Additionally, it is important to acknowledge that he is a Black man in late 19th century America, attempting to succeed as an inventor and businessperson in a hostile environment. The very fact that he is delivering his presentation in the Hofbrau of the Midway, instead of the nearby Machine Hall of the White City, is indicative of the discrimination he faced. They likely wouldn't have allowed him entry there. Therefore, I believe his quick thinking and ability to deceive stem from his need to survive and thrive in such a challenging environment. Furthermore, his conman persona is also influenced by the fact that his groundbreaking ideas surpass the capabilities of the materials and technology available to him in the late 19th century. While his ideas are undoubtedly valid, his ability to fully realize them is constrained by the limitations of the era.

Why Victor Timely Is So Important For Loki Season 2

In season 1 of the MCU show, the identity of He Who Remains remained a mystery until the finale, keeping his variant undisclosed. However, Loki season 2 takes a different approach by introducing a different version of Kang much earlier in the narrative. This change is accompanied by a significant shift in how he contributes to the story. The post-credits scene of Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania hints at Loki's shock upon encountering the variant, but episode 3 unveils that both Loki and Mobius are actively searching for him in order to restore the Temporal Loom at the TVA.

Although He Who Remains may have initially aimed to create the TVA with noble intentions - to prevent another multiversal war caused by his variants - his enigmatic essence ultimately posed as a more sinister force and became an antagonist for Loki and Sylvie, who yearned for autonomy. Additionally, this was reinforced by the fact that he presented only two choices to them: either to kill him, thereby unleashing the other Kangs on the multiverse, or to take his place and manage the TVA. Considering his seemingly boundless wisdom, a kinder version of Kang would have pursued a third option that benefitted all three parties involved.

With three episodes left in Season 2 of Loki, it is yet to be determined if Timely, a Kang variant, will exhibit more compassionate qualities or not. However, his initial introduction has already alluded to a hidden darkness within him. As Farahani points out, the character possesses eccentric and peculiar traits, but his deceptive actions may ultimately pave the way for another transformation into a villainous version of Kang once he reaches the TVA and learns the true nature of the agency he played a part in establishing.
