Lisa Vanderpump remains unforgiving towards Kyle Richards, but still sympathizes with her former Real Housewives of Beverly Hills co-star as she navigates troubles in her marriage with Mauricio Umansky. "I've been honest about not having a great relationship with Kyle," shared Lisa, 63, during an exclusive interview with We at BravoCon on November 3. "When someone brands you as a liar, it becomes difficult to repair the relationship, especially when they refuse to retract their statement. However, I do feel empathy towards their situation. They have a family and lovely daughters."
Lisa and Kyle's friendship, which began during the first season of RHOBH in 2010, came to an abrupt end in 2018. The cause of their falling out was when their co-star Dorit Kemsley adopted a puppy from Lisa's dog rescue center, Vanderpump Dogs. Unfortunately, the puppy ended up in a high-kill shelter, and Teddi Mellencamp accused Lisa of intentionally using this situation as a storyline on the show by having her employees talk about it.
Kyle, attempting to remain neutral, questioned Lisa when the story leaked to the press. This upset Lisa even more, leading to a heated argument between the two. Lisa's husband, Ken Todd, even kicked Kyle out of their house, and as a result, Lisa cut off all communication with her costars, including Kyle. Eventually, Lisa officially left the Bravo series during season 9.
After their falling out, Kyle disclosed to Us that she had made multiple attempts to reach out to her former friend, but received no response. In November 2018, she expressed her frustration, stating, "I've sent emails, text messages, and I don't know what else to do. As far as I'm concerned, it's up to her to make the next move."
Although it appears that the two have not reconciled, Lisa's display of "empathy" comes at a time when Kyle is facing a different kind of relationship turmoil. In July, it was confirmed by Us that Kyle and Mauricio, who had been married for 27 years since their wedding in 1996, have decided to separate. The couple shares three daughters - Alexia (27), Sophia (23), and Portia (15). Additionally, Mauricio is the stepfather of Kyle's daughter Farrah (34), whom she had with her ex-husband Guraish Aldjufrie.
Kyle and Mauricio released a joint statement on Instagram in July regarding their separation, acknowledging the challenges they faced in their marriage throughout the year but affirming their commitment to not pursue a divorce. They emphasized their tremendous love and respect for each other, assuring that no one was at fault.
Tension between Kyle Richards and Mauricio Umansky increased after pictures emerged of Mauricio holding hands with his Dancing With the Stars partner, Emma Slater, the previous month. Kyle openly shared her unease about the images on Watch What Happens Live, stating to host Andy Cohen, "I'm uncertain if anything has transpired, but it's clear that there is something going on. ... I do love him deeply, and we are on good terms. [However], that really did cause me a lot of pain."
Mauricio directly confronted the speculation about their romantic involvement in an Instagram video he shared with Slater in October, clarifying that they are not in a relationship. Similarly, it seems that Kyle and Mauricio are not the sole Real Housewives of Beverly Hills cast members experiencing challenges in their marriages. In Touch magazine reported in October that Dorit and her husband, PK Kemsley, are leading separate lives. However, both of them dismissed these rumors, reaffirming their commitment to their marriage. The couple, who have two children together, Jagger (9) and Phoenix (7), expressed their intention to continue their relationship.
Dorit and PK, who are both 56 years old, acknowledged that they have faced difficulties in their relationship and will address them during season 13 of RHOBH, which premiered in October. Additionally, a trustworthy source revealed recently that Dorit and PK are currently engaging in couples counseling and spending some time apart.
“They are both in agreement that it is the appropriate course of action,” another source informed Us. "They have recently experienced a difficult period and wish to maintain a cordial relationship, regardless of whether they remain together or not."
During an interview with Us at BravoCon on Friday, Lisa expressed her disbelief in the rumors surrounding Dorit and PK's relationship, stating that she does not place too much importance on unfounded hearsay.
"I haven't heard much about that, and I never really put much stock in rumors because I believe every marriage goes through its challenges," she clarified. "Having been married for 41 years, there were certainly times where I felt like wringing Ken's neck, and I've never been shy about expressing my frustration. When people ask me what it's like being married, I tell them straight - it's damn hard! It truly is."
