Bronny James, the son of LeBron James, has returned home after experiencing a cardiac arrest during a recent basketball practice. Dr. Merije Chukumerije, the consulting cardiologist who treated the 18-year-old, revealed on Thursday, July 27, that Bronny has been discharged and is currently in the process of recovery.
In a statement, Chukumerjie expressed gratitude for the USC athletics' medical staff, who provided swift and effective treatment for Bronny James, successfully addressing a sudden cardiac arrest. Bronny arrived at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in a conscious and stable state, with no neurological damage. After receiving prompt care from highly-trained staff, he has now been discharged and is resting at home. While his medical evaluation is ongoing, there is optimism for his continued improvement, supported by his response, resilience, and the backing of his family and community. Earlier this week, a spokesperson for the James family confirmed that Bronny had been urgently taken to the hospital on July 24, following a workout session with his college basketball team at the University of Southern California.
A spokesperson informed We on Tuesday, July 25, that medical personnel successfully provided treatment and transported Bronny to the hospital. Currently, he is in stable condition and has been moved out of the ICU. We kindly request that the James family's privacy and respect be maintained, and we will provide further updates to the media as soon as more information becomes available. LeBron, 38, is married to Savannah James, whom he met in high school and wed in 2013. They are the proud parents of Bryce (16) and Zhuri (8).
Earlier today, LeBron provided an update on Bronny's well-being, assuring fans that everyone is doing well following Bronny's health scare. LeBron expressed his gratitude to the numerous individuals who have sent love and prayers to his family, stating that their support has been greatly appreciated. He emphasized that his family is safe, healthy, and united, and he will share more details when the time is right. LeBron also revealed that he envisions a future where he and Bronny play together in the NBA, a revelation that surprised Bronny when he heard his father discuss it during an interview.
"We don't extensively discuss the future," stated LeBron to Sports Illustrated in August 2022. "I put my thoughts out into the universe, as I enjoy conversing with the basketball deities and exploring the possibility of their manifestation. Throughout my career, I have consistently established goals, engaged in dialogues with the basketball gods, and witnessed them fulfilling my desires. Hopefully, they will also heed this final wish of mine."
