Over the years, Call of Duty titles have undergone significant updates, bringing about a number of changes to the post-launch content. Gone are the days of expansions and map packs, as Call of Duty has now embraced a seasonal model. Each title receives multiple seasons that span three to four months. These seasons kick off with a major update that introduces a wealth of new gear, cosmetics, multiplayer and battle royale updates, all tied together by an overarching narrative. Alongside this, a balance patch is also rolled out. Furthermore, Reloaded patches are released during the middle of a season, offering additional updates to existing or newly released content. This includes changes to battle royale maps, the introduction of new weapons and gadgets, and the addition of new cosmetics.

Activision has officially announced the Reloaded patch for Season 5 of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone, which launched on August 2. The patch will bring three new weapons, three new operators (including Mace from Modern Warfare, 21 Savage as a celebrity operator, and Lara Croft), new game modes, a new multiplayer map, expansions to the DMZ mode, and a comprehensive balance patch, among other updates. The specific details of the patch notes are not currently available, but the publisher has promised to release them closer to the launch date.

In terms of gameplay, Warzone will see the return of Armored Royale and the introduction of a new Resurgence experience centered around Al Mazrah's Al-Bagra Fortress and its surroundings. The Shadow Company faction will also receive new missions for the DMZ missions. The Communications upgrade tasks within matches will also be improved, and a new boss will be added to the DMZ. In multiplayer, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 will see the addition of the DRC-Zone 1 map and a new game mode called Gunfight Snipers, which focuses on duos.

The Season 5 Reloaded patch is scheduled to be released on August 30. Activision has repeatedly reassured players that the majority of the rewards obtained in Modern Warfare 2 will be transferred to the new game, including those in the Reloaded patch, as well as all camos and pro-issue weapons blueprints earned from Ranked playlists.
