Activision has officially announced that Lara Croft, the legendary Tomb Raider, will be joining the roster of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone in a future update. This crossover trend within the Call of Duty franchise is continuing to grow, with popular artists like Nicki Minaj and Snoop Dogg already making appearances in Call of Duty: Warzone. In addition to these celebrity cameos, characters from other popular series, such as Homelander, Black Noir, Starlight from The Boys, and even the villainous Shredder from Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, have also made appearances as playable operators. While there have been hints of Lara Croft's involvement in Call of Duty in the past, it is now official with this announcement from Activision.
Lara Croft, the iconic protagonist of the Tomb Raider series, is set to join the Call of Duty battlefield, as confirmed by a post on the official Call of Duty Twitter account. The post featured an image of Lara peering out of a cave, armed with pistols, overlooking a warzone, accompanied by the caption "Pistols ready. Prepared for drop in." Although the release date for Lara Croft's availability in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 or Warzone is unknown, fans can anticipate her appearance with great excitement.
Since the last Tomb Raider release in 2018, the series has been relatively dormant. While Lara Croft did make a brief appearance in Fortnite in 2021, the lack of activity is attributed to Square Enix selling the Crystal Dynamics studio to Embracer Group. However, the studio has confirmed that a new Tomb Raider game is in development, utilizing the Unreal Engine 5.
Activision aims to keep players engaged by introducing new skins to Warzone and Modern Warfare 2 before the release of the next installment in the popular franchise. The Gamescom Opening Night Live event showcased Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, which will bring a plethora of fresh features upon its release on November 10. These features include Open Combat Missions, allowing players to approach specific missions in their preferred way, and an open-world Zombies mode.
In the upcoming months, Call of Duty enthusiasts can anticipate an abundance of content in both Warzone and Modern Warfare 2. Apart from the introduction of Lara Croft, additional multiplayer maps are expected to be available for players to conquer in Modern Warfare 3. As with the last two Modern Warfare releases, Sledgehammer Games, the developer, is predicted to announce a new multiplayer map for Warzone during the upcoming October Call of Duty event.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S.
