Kylie Kelce continues to show her unwavering support for her husband Jason Kelce, even after his retirement.
In an interview with NBC Philadelphia on Tuesday, March 5, Kylie, 31, expressed her gratitude for the overwhelming love and support they have received. She acknowledged that while she expected this response due to her husband's character and impact on people's lives, it still came as a pleasant surprise.
Kylie mentioned in the interview that she hasn't been very active on social media since Jason, who is 36, announced his retirement. She joked that the main reason was to prevent her mascara from running.
She also expressed that the love and support from the people in Philadelphia, as well as the listeners of the podcast and the recent fans of Jason, known as the 92%ers, have been overwhelming in a very positive way.
Jason, a longtime player on the Philadelphia Eagles offense, shared his retirement from the NFL in a press conference on Monday, March 4. During his speech, he mentioned his wife Kylie and reminisced about the night they first met, which brought a smile to her face.
Kylie found it amusing that Jason attempted to recall details from that night, considering he was a bit intoxicated. She jokingly remarked that his memories were too generous and kind, giving him far too much credit.
Kylie mentioned that she believes she was the only person who heard Jason's speech before he made his live announcement. She also mentioned that Jason had been working on different versions of his farewell address for the past four years.
According to Kylie, the version of the speech he delivered was completely different from previous ones. She explained that every year, Jason would start from scratch to reflect what was on his mind. When he mentioned that he had been thinking about retirement for years, he truly meant it.
Jason shared his decision with his teammates following the Eagles' loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in January, as reported by NFL insider Adam Schefter. Both Jason and Kylie showed visible emotions after the game.
Fans have been curious about when Jason would retire from the sport. In the 2023 Prime Video documentary "Kelce," Jason and Kylie, who got married in 2018, talked about the possibility of his retirement.
Jason mentioned that there have been minor issues on the field that may escalate into bigger problems as he continues to play.
Kylie revealed in a confessional that Jason's injuries during games have had an impact on him even at home. (Jason and Kylie have daughters Wyatt, 4, Ellie, 3, and Bennett, 12 months.)
"People don't understand how the physical toll from football affects your family life," she said. "I always say that regardless of how his football career goes, I hope he can retire while he's still able to play with our kids without any discomfort."
She added, "I want to acknowledge that they are well-paid, but it's hard to believe that a 35-year-old is in so much pain."
Kylie expressed her support for Jason during an appearance on Good Morning America in January. She mentioned that she would continue to support him, no matter what decisions he makes. Kylie believes that constantly thinking about "what ifs" like continuing to play one more season would be unhealthy. She is confident that whatever path Jason chooses, he will be successful in it.
In 2011, Jason was drafted and made history as the first rookie in Eagles history to start all 16 regular season games at center. He proudly led the Eagles to their first-ever Super Bowl victory in 2018. Jason returned to the NFL championship in 2023, but unfortunately lost to his brother Travis Kelce and the Kansas City Chiefs.
