Kimora Lee Simmons and her family are all safe following a fire at their Los Angeles home. Simmons expressed her gratitude to the emergency responders who attended to them and potentially saved their lives on Instagram Story on December 2.
The Baby Phat designer posted multiple photos of LAFD officers at the scene, dressed in their gear while extinguishing a fire and smoke in Simmons' fireplace.
Although Simmons did not disclose details of the incident or who was home at the time, she is a mother of five. Kimora is the mother of daughters Ming, 23, and Aoki, 21, with her former husband Russell Simmons, whom she was married to from 1998 to 2009. She later had a son, Kenzo, 14, with her ex Djimon Hounsou and a son, Wolfe, 8, with her husband Tim Leissner. Kimora also adopted her son Gary, now 13, in January 2020.
“I feel incredibly grateful and fortunate to have a son like [Gary], and the transition has been remarkably smooth. He just fit right in as if he belonged there from the start,” the proud mother exclusively told We the following March. “We’re a large and noisy bunch. There's always someone calling out, ‘Mom, mom, help me with this, do that,’ non-stop. ‘Mom, mom, mom.’ But he has seamlessly become a part of it all.”

In June, Ming wrote a Father's Day tribute to Kimora, leaving out Russell, which led to speculation that Kimora had meddled in his relationship with his kids. Later, Aoki posted a now-deleted note on Instagram accusing Russell of verbal abuse and refusing to accept help for his declining health.

Russell vehemently denied the accusations before apologizing to his daughters, but Kimora supported Ming and Aoki through it all. As of today, Aoki has no regrets about speaking out.
“It was already public knowledge. I felt it was appropriate to speak out because it was kind of a silent issue,” she told Teen Vogue in a September interview, affirming that despite the public drama, they are still a “normal family.”
