Kesha released her last five albums under Dr. Luke's Kemosabe Records, with Gag Order being the most recent one in 2023. The singer decided to leave the record label after settling a defamation case with Dr. Luke, who is 50 years old, in June 2023.

In 2014, Kesha accused Dr. Luke of assaulting her in 2005. She said she woke up in his bed feeling sore and sick, with no recollection of how she ended up there.

Following the incident, Kesha took legal action against Dr. Luke. She alleged that he warned her he would ruin her career if she spoke out about what had happened.

Dr. Luke responded by denying the claims and filing a defamation lawsuit against the singer. His lawyer at the time stated that Kesha's statements were "outrageous" and "untrue." Although Kesha dropped her suit in 2016, Dr. Luke continued to pursue $50 million in damages.

In a significant win for Kesha in June 2023, the New York Court of Appeals ruled that Dr. Luke, considered a "public figure," would have to demonstrate that she acted with "actual malice" in her initial accusations against him.

Later that month, a joint statement was released on Instagram to announce a resolution in the case. Both Kesha and Dr. Luke agreed to settle the lawsuit and release a joint statement about it.

In a personal statement, Kesha mentioned that only God knows what truly happened on the night of the alleged assault. She expressed her desire to move forward and start a new chapter in her life, wishing peace to everyone involved.
