Kate Hudson recently shared that there is hope for a better relationship with her father, Bill Hudson, despite years of being distant.
In a preview of her upcoming interview on CBS News Sunday Morning, Kate, 45, admitted that she currently doesn't have much of a relationship with her 74-year-old father. However, she hinted that there may be more to the situation that she is willing to explore.
"It's getting warmer," Kate informed Tracy Smith in a video released on Friday, April 26. "Things are heating up. Whatever will be, will be."
Bill, a founding member of The Hudson Brothers musical group, tied the knot with Kate's mother Goldie Hawn in 1976. Three years later, they welcomed Kate into the world. Goldie, 78, and Bill also have an older son, Oliver Hudson, who was born just two months after their wedding.
Kate made it clear that she does not expect to reconcile with her father, but her only wish is for him to be happy.
Goldie divorced Bill in 1980, and the divorce was finalized in two years. She started dating Kurt Russell in 1983, and even though they never got married, Kurt, 73, played a significant role in raising both Kate and Oliver.
During a 2016 interview on The Howard Stern Show, Kate discussed how the family dynamic changed after her parents divorced. Kate mentioned that her father, Bill, was present when they were young but gradually became less involved.
When Howard teased Bill about losing interest in his kids, Kate chuckled and replied, "I'm sure there was more to it than that."
Kate went on to say, "My mom never said anything bad about him. I was a strong-willed child and I knew it wasn't about me or my brother, Oliver. We both understood that."
Kate also recognized her father's challenges and expressed her forgiveness for his absence. When Howard mentioned the idea of having her father present, Kate pointed out Kurt, who has been a supportive presence during difficult times.
"He's not perfect, just like everyone else," Kate shared about Kurt. "But the trust I had in his reliability meant everything to me."
