Hunger Games co-stars and best friends Josh Hutcherson and Jennifer Lawrence continue to support each other's successes.

"Jen messaged me when Five Nights at Freddy’s was released," Hutcherson, 31, shared with Variety in an interview on Monday, January 8. "She said, 'My movie is #1 on Netflix, and yours is #1 at the box office! Let's celebrate!' I responded, 'I love you!'"

In October 2023, the film Five Nights at Freddy’s, based on the video game of the same name by Scott Cawthon, was released. The story follows security guard Mike (played by Hutcherson) as he encounters terrifying live animatronics at Freddy Fazbear’s Pizzeria. The film was a huge hit with fans, earning over $300 million worldwide and becoming the top-grossing horror movie of 2023.

Hutcherson commented on the film's success, praising the passionate and dedicated fans. He expressed his excitement at being part of the project and noted that the unexpected resonance with audiences exceeded everyone's expectations.

“I don’t think anyone, even on our side, expected it to have the impact that it did,” he continued, noting that the sequel is currently in progress. “I can’t wait to return to the set. Emma Tammi, our director, was amazing, and it was a blast to be a part of that world. I’m thrilled to see what they have planned next.”

While Hutcherson is enjoying his success with Freddy’s, 33-year-old Lawrence was recently nominated for Best Performance by a Female Actress in a Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy for her role as Maddie in the film No Hard Feelings. The comedy was released in theaters in June 2023 and earned $87 million worldwide before hitting No. 1 on Netflix three months later.

Hutcherson and Lawrence first crossed paths while filming their 2012 movie The Hunger Games. In the film, they played the roles of Peeta and Katniss, two tributes from District 12 selected to compete in a deadly arena, and eventually finding love amidst the chaos. Both actors reprised their roles in the three subsequent sequels, culminating in the release of the final film, The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2, in November 2015.

During interviews together, the former child star reflected on his time with Lawrence, fan-favorite co-star from the franchise, recalling, "It was all of us being silly kids, just goofing off. I don’t know how we ever got anything done. I'm amazed the movies turned out well." He further expressed, "It almost feels like a different lifetime. Making those movies was like my college experience. I was 18, and it lasted for four years. ... It's surreal to think that almost 10 years have passed. It's incredible."
