During her time at Nickelodeon, the former actress also made cameo appearances in Zoey 101, True Jackson, VP, Fred: The Movie, Big Time Rush, and Victorious.
In April 2014, Sam & Cat was temporarily put on hold amidst rumors of a conflict between McCurdy and the network. Nickelodeon later confirmed that the show would not be renewed for a second season. Taking a Stand
Jennette addressed her absence from the Kids' Choice Awards in 2014 on social media. Despite rumors that Grande was being paid more than her, she explained that she wished she could provide a more detailed explanation but could only offer a simpler one. Full of Regret
During an episode of her “Empty Inside” podcast in March 2021, Jennette revealed that she felt embarrassed about the shows she appeared on between the ages of 13 and 21. By the age of 15, she was already experiencing feelings of embarrassment. Instead of receiving praise from her friends for being on a Nickelodeon show, she found their reactions to be quite the opposite. Jennette speculated that having a sense of pride in one's acting roles would likely result in a completely different experience.

Different Outlook
During her time in Hollywood, the child actress expressed her strong resentment towards her own life in March 2021. On her podcast, she revealed that although the shows she appeared on were adored by countless people, particularly children, her personal experience was far from enjoyable. Despite constantly hearing praises like "You made my childhood," she emphasized that her own experience was vastly different.
For Jennette, her experience on television was "pointless and shallow" because of the roles she had. "It just was hellish, I think, is not too intense of a word," she added.

Looking Back
Jennette recounted how she was impacted by the disparity in career paths between her and her Sam & Cat co-star.
"During the initial 20 episodes of our show," the former Zoey 101 actress shared on an episode of the "Empty Inside" podcast in June 2021, "Ariana Grande skyrocketed to fame. She had to skip work due to constant demands. She had to fulfill commitments for radio shows, Billboard Awards, and the Grammys."
She proceeded, stating, "While she's showcasing her talent at the Grammys, I, on the other hand, am confined to performing on this show inside a box. It was decided that, for that week, her character would be trapped in a box to allow her to go and perform at the Grammys."

Double Standards
According to an extract from her book, initially shared through The New York Times, Jennette made a claim asserting that Nickelodeon treated her in a disparate manner compared to Grande. She alleged that the network restricted her from pursuing other roles while she was involved with Sam & Cat.
"When Ariana burst into the room, brimming with thrill, and revealed that she had spent the previous night engaged in a lively game of charades at Tom Hanks's residence, that's when everything in me crumbled," she reminisced. "That instance marked my breaking point." We's inquiry for comment remained unanswered by Nickelodeon.

The Harsh Reality

She expressed her desire to speak the truth about her experiences on the show and at Nickelodeon, but refrained from doing so in fear that it would only keep her association with the show and Nickelodeon in people's minds.

The mere mention of these show titles makes my body tense up. Whenever I say them, I feel a burning sensation in my ears," she confessed. "There is so much shame associated with having been involved in them. Anyone who has read my book surely comprehends this."
