Jelly Roll was overcome with emotion after learning of his first two Grammy nominations.
Uncertain about whether or not I will share this, as my emotions are overwhelming me, but hearing that I have been nominated for a Grammy is the highest honor an artist can receive. In an Instagram video on Friday, November 10, the singer, aged 38, tearfully conveyed this news to his fans. He confessed that this recognition brought him to tears, a similar intensity he felt when he lost his father. Despite attempting to record the video seven times, he expressed love and gratitude towards his supporters. The country star initially felt hesitant and embarrassed to release the candid clip, but his wife, Bunnie XO, encouraged him, stating that his genuineness and vulnerability have played a significant role in his success. He promised to share a more elaborated message about the nominations once he has collected his thoughts, expressing that he never could have imagined such recognition.
The singer has been nominated for Best New Artist at the 2024 ceremony, alongside other nominees such as The War and Treaty, Ice Spice, Gracie Abrams, Fred Again…, Coco James, Victoria Monét, and Noah Kahan. Additionally, he is also in the running for Best Country Duo/Group Performance for the remix of his song "Save Me" featuring Lainey Wilson, which was originally included on his 2020 studio album, Self Medicated.
Following the announcement of his Grammy nominations on Friday, friends and fans quickly flooded Jelly Roll's comments section to congratulate and applaud his vulnerability. Lainey Wilson, 31, who is also nominated for Best Country Album for her record Bell Bottom Country, expressed her admiration, saying, "Jelly, I love you. Your energy is infectious. Can't wait to see you at the GRAMMYs."
Fellow country singer Miranda Lambert expressed her support with a heart and raised hand emoji, while Wynonna Judd exclaimed: "YOU DESERVE IT ALL!!!!!!! We are so happy for you!!!!!!! Congratulations my sweet friend ️."
Jelly Roll has had an eventful year. In addition to being nominated for a Grammy, he recently won New Artist of the Year at the 2023 CMA Awards, which took place on November 8 in Nashville. In April, he took home Male Video of the Year, Male Breakthrough Video of the Year, and Digital-First Performance of the Year for his single "Son of a Sinner."
After the Recording Academy revealed the complete list of Grammy nominations on Friday, Jelly Roll expressed his thoughts to American Songwriting about receiving such a prestigious recognition shortly after his CMA victory.
"It's truly an incredible honor to be nominated for a Grammy, especially just two days after winning the CMA New Artist of the Year award," he shared with the outlet. "Being in a genre-spanning category that represents country music is an immense privilege. Collaborating on a song like 'Save Me' with someone I've known since childhood and having the Academy recognize it with a nomination, along with the incredible contributions of Lainey Wilson in adding her talent, heart, and spirit to it - I've been moved to tears all morning."
