Jelly Roll wants to do his part to stop the fentanyl crisis in the United States.
The 39-year-old country singer, speaking at the Senate’s Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs Committee on Thursday, January 11, expressed his support for the bipartisan Fend Off Fentanyl Act by sharing that he has tragically attended numerous funerals of loved ones due to drug-related deaths. He emphasized that these were not just "drug addicts" but "uncles, friends, cousins and normal people." Despite his history as a drug dealer, he made it clear that he was not there to defend the use of illegal drugs.
"I believe that my personal experiences make me the right person to speak on this. I used to be part of the problem," he admitted. "But now, I stand here as a man who wants to be part of the solution. I brought harm to my community, hurt people, and acted as an uneducated man in the kitchen, experimenting with drugs I knew nothing about. Just like the drug dealers today who are mixing fentanyl with every drug on the market, resulting in the deaths of our loved ones."
Jelly Roll explained that his determination to address the issue is deeply personal, as his own family has been affected by the crisis.
"Having a 15-year-old daughter with a drug-addicted mother means facing the daily reality of how drugs can devastate a family," he said. "Every day, I dread the possibility of having to tell my daughter that her mother has become just another statistic in the national drug crisis."

The Grammy nominee has a daughter, Bailee, and a son, Noah, from previous relationships. In 2016, he married his current wife, Bunnie XO. Having experienced the struggles of addiction personally, Jelly Roll is also aware of how the crisis has affected his fans. "At every concert I perform, I witness the heartbreaking impact of fentanyl. Fans, grappling with this tragedy in their families, seek solace in music and hope that their experiences won't befall others," he shared. "They crave reassurance - that their elected representatives value their lives and those of their lost loved ones above political agendas. My appeal to this committee, and to all members of the House and Senate, is to offer this hope."

Drawing from his past challenges, Jelly Roll has found inspiration for his music and has become a rising star in the country music industry. "I've come to terms with my past. It still lingers like familiar ghosts, but I can confidently say that I'm not tempted by drugs today," he shared in a December 2023 interview with People. "As for tomorrow, I can't say, but in this moment, I am content."
