Introducing David Ayer's latest action film, "The Beekeeper," where Jason Statham fearlessly takes on and combats phishing scammers. Statham, the renowned action hero known for his breakthrough roles in Guy Ritchie's movies, has had an extraordinary year in 2023. Following his remarkable performance in Ritchie's "Operation Fortune: Ruse de Guerre," Statham embarks on another thrilling adventure with his loved ones in "Fast X." In this summer blockbuster, he courageously battles against prehistoric megalodons in "The Meg 2." Additionally, audiences can currently witness him joining forces once again with Sylvester Stallone in the explosive "The Expendables 4."
Statham has previously been seen in familiar vehicles, but in his next film, The Beekeeper, he will take on the role of an equalizing hero. The recently released trailer, along with a new poster (via MGM), can be viewed below. Directed by Ayer, known for Suicide Squad, the film also features a talented cast that includes Jeremy Irons, Minnie Driver, Emmy Raver-Lampman, Josh Hutcherson, and Phylicia Rashad.
The Beekeeper Could Launch Statham’s Own Taken/Equalizer Franchise
Statham's character in The Beekeeper, as shown in the trailer, is a man with a mysterious past who gets involved in a personal mission. He utilizes his skills to take down multiple villains, following a successful formula seen in the Taken franchise and The Equalizer movies starring Liam Neeson and Denzel Washington, respectively. Similar to the motivation of Robert McCall in Equalizer 3, The Beekeeper's protagonist embarks on a violent quest for justice after being targeted by internet scammers. With his experience in action films like Fast & The Furious, The Transporter, and The Expendables, it appears that Statham is ready to enter a phase similar to that of Neeson and Washington, portraying vengeful heroes with questionable pasts in action-packed movies aimed at mature audiences. Given the decline in popularity of The Expendables franchise, Statham might consider establishing his own series as a solitary character with unique abilities, seeking retribution for those he cares about through a series of films. The Beekeeper is set to be released on January 12, 2024.
