Brittany Aldean took to Instagram on Tuesday, August 1 to celebrate her husband Jason Aldean's first-ever No. 1 hit with his song "Try That in a Small Town." She expressed excitement about the achievement and mentioned the unexpected debate it sparked within the industry.
Brittany uploaded a photo of herself embracing Jason and a snapshot of him holding their two children, Memphis (5) and Navy (4). Her post also included videos of the couple enjoying a festive gathering at a restaurant with their loved ones. Fans and friends expressed their joy and support in the comments section. Candace Owens wrote, "Courage pays off in the long run. Not many have the bravery to do it, but luck truly favors the bold. Well-deserved. We love you guys️."
Jason, on the other hand, refrained from acknowledging his achievement on social media after reaching his first No. 1. Following his controversial song, Morgan Wallen's "Last Night" and Luke Combs' rendition of "Fast Car" claimed the second and third positions, respectively, marking the first time in 65 years that country songs occupied the top three spots on the Billboard chart.
Although "Try That in a Small Town" was initially released in May, it gained traction only after the release of its music video last month. Some listeners raised concerns about the song's lyrics, which seemingly promote actions like threatening a liquor store owner with a gun or confronting a police officer in a small town and testing the consequences.

Despite facing criticism from social media users and fellow musicians, Jason remained steadfast in his defense of his songwriting. In a Twitter statement on July 18, he asserted that there were no lyrics in the song that referred to race, and all video clips used were authentic news footage. However, he acknowledged that people may have their own interpretations of the song, but believed the criticism went too far. (The video has since been modified to remove certain images of violent Black Lives Matter protests from 2020.)
During his Highway Desperado tour, Jason addressed the controversy multiple times, reiterating his pride in being an American and his desire to see the country restored to its former state. On July 21, while on stage in Ohio, he expressed his love for his country and family, and made a strong commitment to protect them at all costs.
One week later, Jason made an effort to link the message of his song with the aftermath of the 2013 Boston Marathon bombing at his concert in Massachusetts. He expressed his admiration for how the community, especially Boston, came together to unite and apprehend those responsible. Jason acknowledged that if any of the audience members had found the culprits before the authorities, they would have taken matters into their own hands.
Despite facing public criticism, Jason's career has not been affected, and his wife remains his most vocal supporter. Brittany shared her experience of learning to disregard negative comments during an Instagram Q&A posted on Wednesday, August 2.
In the video, she expressed her belief that confidence improves with age. Having personally experienced various challenges in her relationship, she emphasized that negativity from others should not deter one's self-assurance. Furthermore, she confidently declared that any detractors she encounters are unlikely to be more successful than her, concluding with a firm directive to block and delete them.
