Sheryl Crow's Explosive Critique Sparks Controversy Over Jason Aldean's Pro-Gun Anthem – Supported by Wife Brittany Aldean

Sheryl Crow and Brittany Aldean weigh in on the controversy surrounding Jason Aldean's controversial pro-gun anthem 'Try That in a Small Town', sparking a heated debate

Sheryl Crow and Brittany Aldean have expressed their contrasting opinions on Jason Aldean's latest song, following its controversial lyrics. Taking to Twitter on July 18, Crow, aged 61, voiced her thoughts on "Try That in a Small Town," which sparked a heated debate among listeners. She stated, "@Jason_Aldean I come from a small town. Even residents in these towns are tired of violence. There's nothing inherently small-town or American about endorsing violence. You, more than anyone else, should understand this after surviving a mass shooting."

She commented, "This is far from being American or resembling a small town. It's simply pathetic."

Accompanying her statement was a screenshot of the lyrics written by Jason. In the song, he sings, "I possess a gun gifted by my grandfather. They claim one day they will gather us up. Well, that kind of behavior may be acceptable in the city, but good luck trying it here." He continues, "Attempt that in a small town, and see how far you get on the road. Once you cross that line, you won't have to wait long to discover the consequences. I strongly advise against trying it in a small town."

The pro-gun anthem sparked a conversation when its music video was released on Friday, July 14, surprising some fans who were aware of Jason's personal experience with mass shootings. Last year, Jason himself was performing in Las Vegas when a gunman started shooting, resulting in the death of 58 people and injuring 546 others.

Jason took to Twitter on Tuesday to address the controversy surrounding his songwriting. He defended himself against accusations of promoting lynching in one of his songs, emphasizing that the song had been released since May. Additionally, he refuted claims that he was displeased with the nationwide Black Lives Matter protests, stating that such references were baseless and potentially harmful. In response to allegations that his lyrics upheld racist ideology, Jason expressed firm disagreement.

He further emphasized that the song contains no references to race and exclusively features genuine news footage. While he acknowledges and respects different interpretations of music, he believes this particular one crosses a line.

Jason's song faced criticism from fans and fellow songwriters, but his wife provided him with a public display of support. On Tuesday, Brittany, 35, shared a selfie of the couple on Instagram accompanied by the caption, "Never apologize for speaking the truth️."

Having been married since 2015, the couple had previously dealt with controversy in August 2022 when Brittany made transphobic remarks on social media. This scandal resulted in a prolonged feud between the Aldeans and Maren Morris, a strong advocate for the LGBTQ+ community.

During a September 2022 episode of the "I'm Listening" podcast, Morris, 33, acknowledged that individuals have the tendency to hide cowardly behind their phone screens. He expressed empathy towards the young ones who are facing this issue, as he himself continues to confront it despite his established position. However, Morris finds solace in the fact that he consistently strives to improve himself, allowing him to sleep peacefully at night.
