James Gunn reveals that he has reasons for not wanting Marvel stars like Chris Pratt and Pom Klementieff to guest star as themselves in Peacemaker.
Pratt and Klementieff's potential involvement in the DC Universe could be hinted at by Gunn's comment suggesting future roles.
With little new information about Peacemaker season 2, it appears that fans will need to seek out alternative shows like Harley Quinn for their dose of ultraviolence.
James Gunn has shared some details about what will not be included in Peacemaker season 2. While the release date is still uncertain, Gunn has turned the focus on avoiding certain elements in the show rather than deciding what to include.
Gunn frequently engages with fans on social media, answering their questions about his past and upcoming projects. However, this time he took to a solo post to discuss the history of The Joker, sparking speculation among fans about the character's future in the new DC Universe. Nevertheless, in this particular instance, Gunn's attention is centered on revealing snippets of information about the highly-anticipated second season of Peacemaker, the spinoff series led by John Cena from Gunn's The Suicide Squad.
Taking to the new and trendy platform Threads, Gunn recently engaged in answering fan questions, ranging from lighthearted to serious. Amidst moments that brought laughter, such as his playful explanation for keeping Starlord's helmet off in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 because "I wanted to make Chris Pratt work more days," he also delved into inquiries about future projects. One devoted fan wondered if Marvel stars like Pratt and Pom Klementieff from Guardians would ever make cameo appearances as themselves in Peacemaker. Gunn's response was intriguing, saying, "There are specific reasons why I wouldn't prefer either of those actors to play themselves in the DCU!"
The implications are intriguing to consider. Peacemaker's violent portrayal in Mortal Kombat suggests that if any Marvel stars were to appear as themselves, it would likely result in their humorous and messy deaths as part of their cameos. Even some characters who had prominent appearances in Peacemaker's catchy opening did not survive the series. Therefore, what chances would a couple of guest stars have? In a show where Cena's main character violently eliminates enemies alongside his new team, a cameo would likely only contribute a few more gallons to the bloodshed.
However, Gunn's comment could also indicate that he already has plans for both Pratt and Klementieff in the new DCU. Actors transitioning between DC and Marvel is not unheard of. Even within Gunn's projects, actors like Chukwudi Iwuji have made such jumps, portraying Clemson Murn in Peacemaker and then the intimidating High Evolutionary in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. With Pratt's current prolific presence, including rumors of his appearance in an upcoming Jak and Daxter movie, it wouldn't be surprising to see him cross over to different properties.
Peacemaker season 2 updates are currently limited. Fans will need to find alternative sources of comedic violence while waiting for the show's return. One option is to check out Harley Quinn, which is also available on Max. Singing the praises of this show is always a good idea. Don't forget that Peacemaker season 1 can be streamed on Max.
