James Gunn clarified that Zack Snyder hadn't expressed interest in continuing the Snyderverse to him personally, despite fan speculation.
Netflix has been urged by fans to acquire the Snyderverse, with Snyder having future Justice League films in mind. However, Gunn dismissed any notion of Netflix and Snyder showing interest in this regard.
Despite Snyder's strong aspiration to further his Justice League narrative, Gunn, the recent CEO of DC Studios, appears unwilling to meet him halfway, casting doubt on their potential future collaboration.
James Gunn informed DC fans that Zack Snyder had not shown any interest in continuing the Snyderverse. However, when confronted with evidence, Gunn clarified that Snyder had not personally started a conversation with him. Fans have been rallying for Warner Bros. Discovery (WBD) to sell the Snyderverse to Netflix. This comes as Snyder had planned two more Justice League films after Zack Snyder's Justice League, and he already has a working relationship with Netflix through projects like Army of the Dead and the upcoming Rebel Moon. In February 2023, Gunn stated that Netflix and Snyder had not expressed any interest. Nevertheless, Snyder has openly expressed his desire to continue his Justice League storyline, despite Gunn and Peter Safran ending the remaining elements of the Snyderverse. In April, Snyder explicitly stated his intention to carry on with his DC film saga.
A DC fan approached Gunn with a recording of Snyder addressing the question of his interest in continuing the Snyderverse at Full Circle, whether through WBD or a third party like Netflix. Snyder responded earnestly, expressing his passion for the mythology of the DC Universe, the extensive work he has put into its development, and the significance of the fans. The CEO of DC Studios countered the DC fan on Threads, stating that Zack had not shown interest in their discussions, and asked the fan to stop spamming the comment on every post.
The fan defended themselves, questioning the CEO's importance in the matter and stating that Snyder's expression of interest or lack thereof was the only relevant fact. The fan also mentioned that Snyder's interest in returning to DC seemed to have no impact, but at least James Gunn is now aware of it. As of now, Gunn has not continued the conversation.
Greg Silverman, the former President of Warner Bros, acknowledged the profitability of the Snyderverse for the studio. Despite Zack Snyder's Justice League garnering more support in a poll of 56,244 people compared to the MCU's top films, DC Studios CEO James Gunn seems uncertain. This suggests that Gunn might have never intended to hire Snyder for another DC film, despite implying otherwise in a conversation with DC fans.
The question remains: If Snyder were to reach out, would Gunn authorize his return or would it be a situation similar to the meeting between Gunn and Henry Cavill? In that meeting, Cavill expressed excitement about discussing his character's future after Warner Bros announced his return as Superman. However, Gunn informed Cavill that he had different plans. It is unlikely that Snyder would approach Gunn, as he is occupied with Rebel Moon at Netflix, and due to how previous Warner Bros executives mistreated Snyder and his art following his family tragedy during the production of Justice League. Nonetheless, Snyder has previously expressed his openness and has "no complaints" with either Warner Bros or Gunn.
