Jacob Elordi embraced his inner Elvis Presley by indulging in the King of Rock and Roll's beloved culinary delight.
"In a single day, I consumed roughly one pound of delicious bacon," revealed the 26-year-old actor in Entertainment Weekly's Around the Table video series on November 1st. "Although it may not have been visibly apparent due to my height, I was truly the heaviest I have ever been."
During the filming of the biopic "Priscilla," where Elordi plays the role of Elvis and Cailee Spaeny takes on the titular role, director Sofia Coppola disclosed that 78-year-old Priscilla shared an interesting detail about the late musician's preference for well-done bacon.
The film's team had the opportunity to speak with Priscilla directly regarding her memories. They also had access to the family's home movies and photographs. Elordi mentioned that it was important to separate the myth from reality and understand the true essence of the person. By exploring undocumented aspects and behind closed doors, he aimed to portray a more authentic and relatable character.
Elordi is the second actor to portray Elvis recently, following Austin Butler in Baz Luhrmann's Elvis just a year prior. Upon learning that Elordi was cast as another version of Elvis, Butler, 32, extended his best wishes to the Euphoria actor.
To prepare for the role, Butler enlisted the help of a movement coach, a dialect coach, an acting coach, and a singing coach. His dedicated efforts were rewarded when he won a Golden Globe for his outstanding performance.
Elordi took a different approach. In an October episode of the Tonight Show, he playfully hinted that his knowledge of the iconic musician Elvis came mostly from Disney's Lilo Stitch. Despite not feeling confident in his familiarity with Elvis, he decided to audition for the role anyway.
Referring to the audition, Elordi explained to Jimmy Fallon, "Sofia sent me these sides for the character of Elvis, and initially I thought, 'There's no way this is going to happen.'" He then watched a video clip of Elvis after his Army service in Germany, practiced the lines for about 15 minutes, and shot two takes without expecting much to come out of it.
Coppola was clearly impressed as Elordi ultimately snagged the role.
Priscilla hits theaters on November 3.
