On January 7, a Twitter user discovered an undamaged iPhone in a bush that had fallen from Alaska Airlines Flight 1282. The plane experienced a section of the fuselage breaking off shortly after taking off, causing the pilot to make an emergency landing at Portland International Airport. During this incident, two phones flew out of the plane, with the first one being found in a yard.
The second item was discovered by the user, who proceeded to share a collection of images on X/Twitter, detailing their find. The accompanying tweet stated: "Discovered an iPhone at the roadside... It remains in airplane mode with 50% battery and is displaying a baggage claim for #AlaskaAirlines ASA1282. Remarkably intact after a 16,000 foot fall!"
According to The Verge report (citing Wired), the phone remained intact as it had reached its maximum speed before impact, and the surface was able to disperse much of the impact force.
