Introducing Rachel Zegler with the Seven Dwarves in First Look of 'Snow White' Live-Action Image

Disney's 'Snow White' faces setback as the SAG-AFTRA Strike impacts production, leading to a year-long delay for the highly anticipated live-action film

Walt Disney Studios has postponed the release of its live-action adaptation of Snow White due to the SAG-AFTRA strike. The film will now be released in 2025. However, Disney has given fans a glimpse of what to expect by releasing a first look image of the movie. Rachel Zegler will be playing the role of Snow White in the film. The image shows Zegler dressed as Snow White, accompanied by CGI versions of the Seven Dwarves. Martin Klebba has been cast as the voice of Grumpy. The image also showcases Snow White in a forest setting, which is likely her home. Other cast members include Gal Gadot as the Evil Queen, Ansu Kabia as the Huntsman, and Andrew Burnap as a new character named Jonathan.

While the original 1937 Snow White and the Seven Dwarves — the first-ever full-length animated film — strongly emphasized the relationship between Snow White and the prince, Zegler has expressed that this new adaptation will diverge from that traditional narrative. Zegler stated in an interview with Extra that this film will offer "a fresh perspective that may defy the expectations of many as a love story." The film's creative team has likewise committed to contemporizing Snow White for modern audiences.

Snow White is Another Casualty of the SAG-AFTRA Strike

Due to the ongoing actor's strike, Snow White, the latest film in a string of delays, has joined the list of casualties in Hollywood. The actors and industry players are demanding better working conditions while facing resistance from the studios. In addition, Elio, an animated film from Disney's subsidiary Pixar, has also been pushed back a year and is now set to premiere in June 2025. Other major studios like Warner Bros., Paramount, and Sony have followed suit, postponing their big-budget films by several months. Mission Impossible 8 and Kraven the Hunter are among the affected projects.

Snow White is directed by Marc Webb, with a screenplay by Greta Gerwig and Erin Cressida Wilson. Russell Allen and Marc Platt produce the film under Marc Platt Productions and Walt Disney Pictures.

Snow White is now slated to be released in the United States on March 21, 2025.
