They crossed paths three years ago when Axel Disasi joined Monaco and formed a formidable defensive duo with Benoit Badiashile. Their successful partnership led to Chelsea acquiring both players this year for a total of £75m.
The two Frenchmen shared the pitch in 65 matches, resulting in Monaco emerging victorious in 60 percent of their games, averaging a remarkable 2.0 points per game. This equates to a season total of 76 points over 38 Premier League matches - a performance that would have secured them a third-place finish in the previous campaign.
Speaking from the stands at Stamford Bridge, the two players are well aware of the synergy they bring as a duo.
"We've already showcased our great chemistry on the pitch, and it's been working," says Disasi. "I believe we complement each other perfectly."

Badiashile and Disasi, who were teammates at Monaco, both joined Chelsea in 2023. Badiashile stated that he excels in duels, while Disasi prefers receiving the ball and initiating attacks. However, it is important to note that they complement each other well, as Badiashile is not solely a duels player and Disasi is not solely a receiver of the ball.
Can manager Mauricio Pochettino resist the temptation to select these two players in the central position of his Chelsea defense? Despite Badiashile, who joined Chelsea six months earlier than Disasi, recovering from a summer groin injury, the Blues boss hasn't had the opportunity yet.
Badiashile describes Axel as a highly stable player who excels in duels. Although he is skilled at receiving the ball, his focus on duels limits his opportunities, yet he remains proficient in that aspect as well.
Disasi's analysis of Badiashile is equally cheeky. He describes him as a highly skilled receiver of the ball, exhibiting intelligence and impeccable timing in the air. However, he notes that Badiashile should work on scoring more goals, emphasizing the need for an improved goal-scoring ability.
The presence of Thiago Silva, who is still performing at the age of 39, is one factor that could prevent these two from playing together in the Chelsea defense. However, Disasi and Badiashile have youth on their side and are taking this opportunity to learn from the experienced Brazilian defender.
"Well, he was a defender whom I extensively observed during his time at PSG," says Disasi. "His remarkable achievements at PSG greatly influenced me. And now, having the opportunity to train alongside him, I can see firsthand how dedicated he is to his role."

He consistently shares valuable tips, consistently impacting our game. This is a positive aspect that everyone at the club benefits from, as his expertise is at an exceptional level. Conversely, in the case of Badiashile, I tend to constantly seek his guidance, sometimes to the extent of potentially annoying him.
"Axel acknowledged his intelligence and exceptional qualities for someone his age. It's a great privilege to collaborate with someone of his caliber, and everyone who works with him benefits tremendously, pushing us to reach our fullest potential."
"Diasi and Badiashile are further motivated by Silva's fluency in French, acquired during his time at PSG, along with compatriots Malo Gusto and Wes Fofana also being part of the Chelsea backline. It is only natural to assume that Reece James and Ben Chilwell have also refined their French skills as a result."
"Reece [James] has made attempts, but he hasn't quite mastered it," remarks Badiashile. "The English simply speak English," Disasi adds.
Despite the language barrier, Chelsea is displaying indications of unity as a team. Their triumph over Fulham during Monday Night Football, coupled with their Carabao Cup victory, has uplifted morale at Stamford Bridge.
There has been much discussion about Chelsea's prospects for this season, given their disappointing 12th place finish last time and extensive changes both on and off the field during the summer. However, Badiashile flatly denies one particular claim. "Transition? No. You cannot have a transitional season at a prestigious club like Chelsea. It is simply impossible."
The most crucial aspect of a club is winning. The notion of taking a year to familiarize oneself and grow together is disregarded at this particular club, as prioritizing results takes precedence over everything else.
This cannot be considered a transitional season, as there are numerous upcoming games to contend for championships, and I personally do not subscribe to that belief.
And it's not surprising that this mindset has influenced Disasi, a close friend, as well. Even when Chelsea showed interest in his talents, Disasi was convinced from the very beginning, which led to his summer signing.

I had some inquiries regarding the team, and he immediately responded by affirming its exceptional quality. He proceeded to describe the project, emphasizing that despite its infancy, it holds significant promise.
Ever since my arrival, everything he had asserted has proven to be accurate. While there were initial uncertainties at the beginning of the season, it is important to acknowledge that this is a developing endeavor. Consequently, I share his perspective now, as I have witnessed a consistently positive progression since the commencement of the season.
We belong to an extremely determined club where the fans anticipate winning championships every year. Therefore, it is crucial for us to remain alert and focused.
