Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers emphasizes that there will not be any signings of players worth £15m-£20m this summer as he provides details about the club's recruitment strategy.

In an interview exclusively with We News, the manager confirmed that he will heavily depend on head of recruitment Mark Lawwell in order to bolster the team before the commencement of the Scottish Premiership season and their participation in the Champions League.

The club have made five summer signings so far and although further additions are planned, Rodgers has shut down any talk of a marquee signing.

"I think everyone looks and thinks that we might be bringing in a £15m-£20m player, now the reality is that that won't be the case," he said.

The club's foundation does not solely depend on it, however, this does not imply that we are not interested in talented players out there.

With a significant duration remaining in the transfer window, we will strive to further enhance our squad and maintain our pursuit for improvement.

"We've done a lot of early business, which has been great and now allows the players to come in and settle and, of course, we want to do so more, but I'm quite calm in that."

Celtic have made five signings during this transfer window, which include Hyeokkyu Kwon, Maik Nawrocki, and Hyunjun Yang.

In May 2022, Celtic appointed Lawwell, the son of their former chief executive and current chairman Peter, as the new head of first-team scouting and recruitment for the club.

He had formerly collaborated with Ange Postecoglou, his former manager at Yokohama F Marinos, which is among the ten clubs partially owned by CFG. In contrast to Postecoglou's stance on having the ultimate authority in all signings, Rodgers has disclosed that the decision-making process will involve a collective effort from the team.

"I am fully committed to collaborating with the club on this matter. Mark Lawwell, the leader of our recruitment team, has executed an exceptional job," remarked the ex-Leicester boss.

"Given his extensive experience in this particular market from his former position, he possesses a profound understanding of the players. Moreover, he is backed by an accomplished team, instilling my unwavering trust in their capabilities."

Naturally, names will be proposed to me and I will examine them.

A few of these players were recognized prior to my arrival, so my role was to endorse them. Meanwhile, some have been identified during our time here, which means we are continuing to collaborate, which is crucial.

"I am familiar with the location of the club and the existing structure, and our goal is to optimize it while also nurturing player development on the field.

"It is crucial that our actions align with the club's established framework."

Being a contemporary manager in the modern era of the game, it has become increasingly challenging to replicate what you were able to do in the past - spending countless evenings observing players.

With the evolution of the game, your reliance now falls heavily on your recruitment team. Looking at the list of players who have joined, it is evident that not every selection will be perfect. This is often due to players struggling to adapt to their new surroundings, but overall, there has been commendable effort and progress.

Rodgers: I trust the recruitment team

A well-designed framework has been implemented here to minimize the impact of various situations and provide the opportunity for players to thrive in an environment specifically tailored for their growth and progress.

Rodgers achieved a flawless track record in domestic competitions during his initial tenure as Celtic manager, securing two Scottish Premiership titles, two Scottish Cups, and three League Cups. Notably, Rangers had recently returned to the top flight, and despite this, Aberdeen managed to finish second in the two complete seasons Rodgers presided over at Celtic Park.

"When I first arrived, the topic of conversation revolved around Rangers' promotion and their impressive victory against Celtic in a semi-final match," he mentioned. "Aberdeen, along with several other teams, were also displaying great strength at that time.

"Rangers are currently channeling their resources towards growth and will undoubtedly strive for dominance. Meanwhile, other teams will be equally focused on investing and expecting you to continuously close the gaps."

Brendan Rodgers achieved consecutive domestic trebles with Celtic.

"However, my main objective revolves around Celtic, aiming to transform us into the absolute best, nurturing our players and striving for a consistent high level of performance."

The upcoming situation will be no different. It is indeed a challenge, but Celtic is all about winning and winning in style.

Returning here did not evoke any nostalgic feelings. My purpose is to win and to do so in the manner that aligns with this club's foundation, which is a stylish approach to football.

Our goals remain unchanged - to win every game. As we enter the Champions League and European football, the level of competition significantly intensifies, but our aim is to maintain a high level of competitiveness and explore our potential in Europe, be it in the Champions League or any other tournament.

However, we understand the importance of prioritizing our performance in domestic competitions. We believe in taking care of our fundamental responsibilities and building on them as a foundation for success.
