Iman Vellani, the star of The Marvels, isn't concerned about the movie's lackluster performance at the box office. Instead, she believes that it's something Disney CEO Bob Iger should be worried about.
"I don't want to dwell on something that I have no control over, because what's the point? That's Bob Iger's concern," Vellani, 21, shared with Yahoo Entertainment in a recent interview. "The box office performance doesn't reflect on me. I'm satisfied with the final product, and the people that matter to me enjoyed the film."
The Marvels debuted in theaters on November 10, earning $47 million domestically and nearly $100 million worldwide during its opening weekend. This resulted in the film having the poorest start among any Marvel movie since The Incredible Hulk in 2008. In its second weekend, the Captain Marvel sequel only managed to make $10.2 million, setting a new record for the largest drop in box office earnings among all Marvel releases.
Vellani, who first portrayed Kamala Khan in the Disney+ series Ms. Marvel before reprising her role in The Marvels, expressed her sole concern is that the audience enjoys their experience while watching the film.
"It features superheroes in a space setting, offering a lighthearted approach focused mainly on teamwork and sisterhood," she expressed. "It's an enjoyable film, and I'm thrilled to be able to share it with others."
Despite certain MCU enthusiasts feeling let down by the movie, Vellani conveyed her disregard for the critics.

In high school, I often faced disappointment when I enthusiastically shared my excitement with others, only to be immediately shut down. This experience was disheartening, and I hope to avoid seeing the same negativity within the fan community. It is important to allow people to embrace their excitement without dampening their spirits. If you have constructive criticism, it is encouraged to express it, but always remember to support and respect the enthusiasm of others.
Vellani co-stars with Brie Larson, Teyonah Parris, Zawe Ashton, and others in The Marvels. The story follows Ms. Marvel as she joins forces with Captain Marvel (Larson) and Monica Rambeau (Parris) to prevent Dar-Benn (Ashton) from causing havoc on Earth in her mission to revive her home planet.
Larson, aged 34, has expressed her enthusiasm for reprising her role as Captain Marvel/Carol Danvers in the sequel, and she couldn't contain her excitement about collaborating with Vellani.
"I was drawn to the role of Captain Marvel because of the significance of Ms. Marvel and what it represents. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly in February, I expressed my excitement for the portrayal of this character by an exceptionally talented individual with immense potential. Iman is truly the embodiment of the future, the ideal choice for Ms. Marvel, and an extraordinary colleague. I am thrilled for her accomplishments and eagerly anticipate witnessing the limitless possibilities she will pursue in her life. Undoubtedly, she is one of the most cherished individuals in my world."
