IF plot: What is it about?

The official synopsis describes IF as a story of a girl who gains the ability to see everyone's imaginary friends and embarks on a magical adventure to reconnect forgotten IFs with their kids. In an interview with Collider, Krasinski shared that he wanted to make the film for his kids, as they were not allowed to watch "A Quiet Place," which Emily Blunt jokingly referred to as PG-40.

I had to create a film that would appeal to them, and I'm absolutely thrilled about it. Ryan Reynolds is truly exceptional in every way, and the incredibly talented actress Cailey Fleming is also part of the film.

For me, it was about exploring the idea of telling a story about time capsules. Imaginary friends are endearing, but they also represent the hopes, dreams, and aspirations of our youthful, fertile minds - a part of ourselves that never truly disappears. Instead of being told that we're adults, what if we realize that we never stopped being kids?

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, he expressed his fascination with the imaginative world his children would immerse themselves in. He shared his idea with producer Allyson Seeger, suggesting a project where imaginary friends are seen as more than just cute creatures, but rather as vessels for everyone's aspirations and dreams. He wanted to create a space that adults often believe they have left behind, but in reality, is still accessible if only they turn around and look for it.
