How a Gamer Transformed an Xbox One into Ultimate Gaming Machine

Gamer showcases creativity by constructing a fully operational gaming PC within an Xbox One's chassis The impressive build demonstrates the potential for customization and innovation within the gaming community

A gamer has taken recycling to a whole new level by transforming an old Xbox One console case into a fully-functional gaming PC. With a touch of creativity and a lot of skill, the creator managed to give their old console a new lease on life and showed off their impressive work to other gamers. By sharing pictures and specifications of their new gaming PC, the gamer received praise from others for their ingenuity and for repurposing the outdated Xbox One case in a modern age.

The Xbox One, which was released in November 2013 as Microsoft's answer to Sony's PS4, had a rough start due to controversy surrounding the company's initial DRM policies. These policies required constant internet connectivity for the system to operate, causing significant backlash from gamers. Although Microsoft eventually rescinded these efforts, DRM made a small return with the release of the Xbox Series X, as Xbox Game Pass became a preferred method for gamers. After the release of the Xbox Series X, the Xbox One was discontinued, but one gamer was able to give their old console a new life by building a new PC inside the chassis.

On the consoles subreddit, a Reddit user named FitMango2465 shared their latest creation - a custom-built PC using an Xbox One as its base. The build included an Intel i3 10100 quad-core processor, 16GB of RAM, a 2TB m.2 solid-state drive, and an Intel Arc A380 graphics card from AsRock. To power the system, FitMango2465 used a proprietary 600-watt power supply and a mini-ITX motherboard from MSI MPG B560i. However, the build required some modifications, such as using a Dremel cutting tool to make adjustments on the backside of the console, removing the old Xbox part standoffs, and installing additional fans for ventilation. Despite running hot under full load, with CPU temperatures topping out at 94 °C and GPU temperatures at 85 °C, the Intel Arc A380's budget-friendly price of $140 made it a practical choice for budget PC builds. FitMango2465 spent under $700 on the build and received positive feedback from fellow Redditors for repurposing an old Xbox One into a new and functional PC.

FitMango2465 has expressed their intention to enhance the graphics card by upgrading it to an RTX 4050 and improve the thermal performance of the system in the future. Whether or not these endeavors will yield positive results remains to be seen.
