Summary
House of the Dragon season 2 has finished filming, and actor Steve Toussaint expressed excitement in an Instagram post.
The show successfully avoided any strike problems, enabling a slated release date of summer 2024.
With this obstacle out of the way, Max can now concentrate on post-production and is therefore more likely to deliver the next installment punctually.
Filming for House of the Dragon season 2 has concluded, with Max working towards a 2024 release. The Game of Thrones spinoff premiered its first season in the summer of 2022 and received immense popularity and critical acclaim. Within a week of its August 21 debut, HBO announced the renewal of House of the Dragon for a second season, which has since been in development.
The filming for House of the Dragon is coming to an end this week. In an Instagram post, actor Steve Toussaint announced the completion of his part, stating, "A wrap on Steve!" Toussaint expressed his excitement for the upcoming second season of House of the Dragon.
How House of the Dragon Has Avoided Strike Issues
Despite the lack of details on House of the Dragon season 2, the post merely featured an image of Toussaint’s trailer, accompanied by a selfie and a picturesque sunset. Nevertheless, the actor's statement acknowledged that the series has reached its overall completion, proclaiming it to be "in the hands of editors, SFX folk, and whoever else."While Toussaint's statement did not disclose the exact release date for the series, Max is reportedly aiming for a summer 2024 release date. This release date is surprisingly close considering the grand scale of the high fantasy series, its proximity to the 2022 release of House of the Dragon season 1, and the recent resolutions of the SAG-AFTRA and WGA strikes. Max, along with numerous other networks, has experienced show delays as a result of these strikes, including this year's immensely popular The Last of Us.
The aggressive release plan for the show can be credited to House of the Dragon's ability to avoid strike delays. They completed the scripts for their second season before the WGA strike started, expediting the pre-production process. Additionally, the actors of House of the Dragon, who are based in the UK, are part of a contract called Equity, rather than SAG-AFTRA. This allowed House of the Dragon to continue filming while US-based actors were on strike.
This news was particularly beneficial for Max, as they can now reorganize their airing schedule since shows like The Last of Us and Euphoria, which were anticipated to be released sooner, still have to wait for the SAG-AFTRA strike to end before they can begin filming. With House of the Dragon's filming completed, Max can now focus more on the post-production work. Although the summer 2024 release date may still seem ambitious, it is now much more feasible for Max to deliver the next installment on time.
