Article Overview
HBO CEO Casey Bloys has expressed uncertainty regarding the renewal of Our Flag Means Death for a third season. However, he holds a strong affinity for the show and is hopeful that its performance will meet expectations, ultimately warranting future seasons. The assessment of the program's long-term performance is being given precedence, rather than solely focusing on its initial success.
HBO CEO Casey Bloys cautiously updates on the renewal status of Our Flag Means Death for season 3. The show, set during the Golden Age of Piracy, tells the love story of rival pirates Stede Bonnet (Rhys Darby) and Edward "Blackbeard" Teach (Taika Waititi). Both critics and audiences have praised seasons 1 and 2 of this romantic comedy.
TV Insider reports that during HBO and Max's slate presentation on Thursday, Bloys disclosed the current status of Our Flag Means Death season 3. The CEO mentioned that the renewal of the show is uncertain at the moment, but he enjoys the series and hopes that its performance would be strong enough to warrant future seasons. Here's what Bloys had to say:
What sets apart the linear world from this platform is the consideration of a show's performance over an extended period, beyond just three weeks or so. Therefore, we are evaluating its progress and assessing its potential.
How Likely Is Our Flag Means Death Season 3?
It’s undeniably a hilarious, expertly crafted, and emotionally resonant production. Undoubtedly, it is an outstanding show. We are currently deliberating on whether it is justifiable to continue its production. Hence, I am unable to provide a definitive response to anyone at this stage.
Season 2 of Our Flag Means Death concludes with a multitude of poignant moments, paving the way for another installment in the captivating series. Notably, Izzy Hands (Con O'Neill) fearlessly confronts Ricky Banes (Erroll Shand), ultimately sacrificing himself in the process. Additionally, Ed and Stede make the life-altering decision to embrace the role of innkeepers, opting to pursue a tranquil existence after enduring the tumultuous life of piracy.
Although some aspects of season 2 serve as conclusion points for the series, Zheng's desire for revenge against Ricky introduces another conflict for the show. The pirate queen seeks the assistance of the show's main duo, thereby setting the stage for a potential season 3. This would offer a more definitive resolution for Izzy's unexpected death, while also providing a satisfactory conclusion that ties up all loose ends.
Ultimately, the fate of Our Flag Means Death depends on the show's performance on Max. As of now, it is uncertain what the future holds, but the greater the number of viewers the series can attract, the higher the likelihood of renewal. The official announcement regarding the show's future and whether it will be renewed still remains unknown.
