According to a spokesperson for HBO and creator Sam Levinson, the focus remains on delivering a top-quality third season despite the setback.
The cast of Euphoria has been given the green light to explore other projects in the near future. An HBO representative mentioned, "In the interim, we are allowing our in-demand cast to pursue other opportunities."
Recent rumors on social media suggested that the show's third season had been canceled completely. However, Variety clarified in their report on Monday that scripts for season 3 are still in the process of being written.
Euphoria was scheduled to premiere on HBO in 2025, as announced by HBO CEO Casey Bloys during a press event. A teaser video shown at the event revealed the show's release year.
The long wait between seasons of the hit show was primarily caused by creator Levinson's dedication to his 2023 series The Idol and lead actress Zendaya's packed schedule. The delay was further extended last year due to the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes, which Bloys discussed in November 2023.

Premiering in 2019, Euphoria follows Rue Bennett (played by Zendaya) as she navigates sobriety and high school life post-rehab. The series also highlights a diverse ensemble cast, including Hunter Schafer, Alexa Demie, Jacob Elordi, Sydney Sweeney, Maude Apatow, Colman Domingo, and more.
Earlier this month, Sweeney, 26, hinted at production starting up again soon. She mentioned her busy schedule, including going into Euphoria after press tours for Anyone But You, Madame Web, and Immaculate.
When asked if she had seen any scripts for the upcoming season, Sweeney coyly replied, "Maybe. I don’t know."
Season 3 of the show is facing a delay. This season is anticipated to reveal what happens to Fezco, portrayed by the late Angus Cloud. In the previous season, Fezco’s younger brother, Ashtray (Javon Walton), was tragically shot by the police.

Despite Cloud's apparent lack of desire for sobriety, Levinson was determined to support him in his battle with addiction. The executive producer acknowledged that sometimes individuals may not want recovery as much as others wish for it. He recognized the self-destructive nature of addiction, but he refused to give up on Cloud. Levinson was committed to not letting anyone abandon Cloud in his time of need.
