Harry Maguire's potential move from Manchester United to West Ham has stalled.
West Ham believe they have a full agreement with Man Utd on a fee and personal terms are not expected to be a problem.
However, it's thought Maguire's exit from Old Trafford has not been resolved.
West Ham remain interested in the England defender and are ready to do a deal, but will look at other options.
'United managing Maguire out of club'
Maguire was not included in the starting lineup for United's recent 1-0 win against Wolves, as Erik ten Hag opted for Raphael Varane and Lisandro Martinez instead.Despite a defensive substitution made by Ten Hag during halftime, Maguire remained on the bench for the entire match. Victor Lindelof took Martinez's place, who had received a yellow card in the first half. This decision prompted former United player, Gary Neville, to suggest that the club is actively trying to sideline and phase out Maguire.
On Monday Night Football, he stated, "There is no doubt that they are attempting to negotiate Harry Maguire's departure from the club and secure payment for him."
Nevertheless, Ten Hag has consistently expressed his contentment with players choosing to remain and compete for their positions.
Implications for United's move for Pavard?
The development has potential implications for United's incoming transfers as they have engaged in discussions with Bayern Munich regarding the potential acquisition of defender Benjamin Pavard.
Pavard is determined to do everything in his power to secure a move to United from Bayern. However, significant differences in valuation between the two clubs currently exist.
Club talks are currently underway, but the transfer will only take place if Maguire departs from Old Trafford. Manchester United has thoroughly assessed multiple defenders, such as Jean-Clair Todibo from Nice. However, any expenses for potential acquisitions are expected to be contingent on player departures.
'If he cannot fight for his place he has to go' | Ten Hag's strong message to Maguire
Speaking ahead of Man Utd's 1-0 win over Wolves on Monday, boss Erik ten Hag said:
"He must earn his position. With his immense potential as a top-tier centre-back, he is undoubtedly the finest choice for England, so it only makes sense for him to strive for greatness with us as well. However, he must validate this claim. If he lacks the confidence to compete, he needs to contemplate his future and make a decision. Nonetheless, I am content with his progress.
Our team cannot rely on just 11 players, as evident from last year's experience. We undeniably require a complete squad. This entails having exceptionally skilled players who may not always start but have the ability to contribute when needed. Consequently, there is an internal competition and every individual must battle for their place."
Every player, once they excel, will have the opportunity to participate in games. However, it is impossible for anyone to play every game, ultimately leading to the identification of the superior team. Currently, the squad is well-equipped with players in every position, and each individual has the potential to compete for their spot. Through your contribution, you must demonstrate that the team's performance is unparalleled. The players themselves hold the power to determine the amount of game time they have based on their performance.
