Gypsy Rose's Supporters Worried About the Consequences Following the Documentary Series

Gypsy Rose supporters worry about her post-documentary future and sudden Instagram fame, raising concerns about the challenges she may face ahead

Gypsy Rose Blanchard's supporters are expressing their concerns about her future following the release of The Prison Confessions of Gypsy Rose Blanchard documentary series and her rise to fame on Instagram.

The case of Gypsy Rose is incredibly complex. Initially viewed as an inspiring tale of a mother's unwavering dedication to her seriously ill daughter, it was revealed after the murder of her mother, Clauddine "Dee Dee" Blanchard in 2015, that Dee Dee suffered from Munchausen syndrome by proxy (MBP), a form of abuse in which a caregiver deliberately causes a dependent person to appear ill.

Gypsy Rose and her then-boyfriend Nicholas Godejohn hatched and carried out a plan to murder Dee Dee in order for Gypsy to escape the long-term abuse she had endured. Godejohn received a life sentence without the possibility of parole, while Gypsy was released last month after serving eight years of her ten-year sentence.

Since her release, Gypsy has gained online fame, amassing 6.5 million followers on Instagram as she shares updates about her life with family, friends, and husband Ryan Anderson. She is also the subject of a new docu-series, prompting concerns for her future from some of her supporters.

Gypsy Rose supporters fear future after documentary series

Several Redditors have voiced their worries, with one speculating that "inevitably, people will mock her or turn against her," pointing to a recent controversial Instagram post about her husband. Another commenter expressed fear about "what her future will look like once the spotlight is no longer on her."

u/cokezerof4g shared in the first post, "Gypsy was in prison for a while, and before that she was locked up by her own mother. She doesn’t understand the workings of the internet and social media these days."

They added, "If Gypsy is unaware of a specific trend or social justice topic, she will be cancelled or called out in a negative manner. People are watching closely, and she receives millions of likes on every Instagram post. It feels like we are waiting for the massive love to turn into massive hate, as is often the case with celebrities or public figures."

"I sympathize with Gypsy. If I were in her shoes, I would consider hiring a publicist or someone who could provide practical assistance... Recently, she made a comment on one of her husband's photos about how amazing he is in bed... It may be lighthearted and humorous, but it also doesn't guarantee that she won't make similar posts in the future.

Many people concur, with one person responding: "She's already the butt of jokes and causing secondhand embarrassment with her posts and comments. Like when she made that inappropriate remark about her husband's private parts and his reaction, someone likened them to 'that awkward couple from high school'."

“She requires guidance,” commented one person, with another adding, “I believe she requires a manager. I don’t like it, but that’s the reality of the world we live in. If she is serious about becoming an advocate and building a significant social media following, I really think she needs a competent management/public relations team.”

The second post by u/Born-Brilliant-1959 focused more on the potential outcome if media attention wanes, stating, “Why do so many people believe Gypsy Rose won’t return to prison or end up in the news for something terrible she has done? I understand she likely inherited her grandmother’s and mother’s mental illness. Additionally, she has been in the spotlight from a very young age.

“It didn’t end there; during her time in prison, she has given countless interviews, written a book, and is now capitalizing on all the media attention that continues to follow her. The public has continued to show their support for her. Has anyone else, like me, considered what will happen to her once the spotlight fades?”

The post concluded with the statement: “It's unsettling to imagine that she will enter the real world once the media and others stop talking about her.”

A Redditor commented in reply: "If she decides to remain in the spotlight, I assume she will be embroiled in occasional scandals and eventually have her own TLC show."

I hope she has a seamless transition into her new life, but I'm not very optimistic. Her husband's full engagement in the middle school Instagram clapback makes me believe she doesn't have the best support system to guide her.

On the flip side, one person commented, "For someone who made their mother a lot of money by being exploited her whole life, she deserves every dime she earns now by sharing the terrible details of her struggle with FDIA," while another person suggested, "She may deserve it, but it's not healthy for her."

Editor's P/S

As a Gypsy Rose supporter, I am thrilled to see her finally free and able to share her story with the world. She has been through so much in her life, and it is inspiring to see her come out stronger on the other side. I am confident that she will use her platform to raise awareness about Munchausen syndrome by proxy and help others who are suffering from this form of abuse.

However, I also share the concerns of some of her other supporters about the potential consequences of her sudden fame. Gypsy Rose is still a young woman who is trying to find her way in the world, and she may not be fully prepared for the challenges that come with being a public figure. I hope that she will be able to find a support system of people who can help her navigate these challenges and make wise decisions about her future.
