Glen Powell's Close Call with Sydney Sweeney on Anyone But You

Glen Powell narrowly escapes death on set of romcom Anyone But You alongside Sydney Sweeney Director issues apology for misleading marketing campaign

Glen Powell, star of Anyone But You, has shared a harrowing experience from the set while filming the romantic comedy with Sydney Sweeney. The movie, a modern adaptation of William Shakespeare's Much Ado About Nothing, is set to be released on December 22.

Powell plays the role of Ben and Sydney Sweeney from Euphoria plays Bea - two individuals who despise each other but continually encounter each other during their holiday in Australia.

Before the release, there has been a lot of excitement surrounding the on-screen chemistry between Powell and Sweeney. Both actors have refuted rumors about a romance during the production phase of Anyone But You.

Glen Powell nearly died with Sydney Sweeney on Anyone But You

During the filming of Anyone But You, Powell and Sweeney developed a strong bond, especially after experiencing a near-death situation while shooting a cliffside scene.

During an interview with Variety at the premiere of Anyone But You, the pair reminisced about a particular scene. In the scene, Ben hastily strips down after a giant spider is removed from his shorts by Bea.

"Filming days are never glamorous, so you just have to roll with it," Powell commented. "Taking off your clothes on the edge of a cliff in a rush is also not safe. There's never any talk about the safety aspect of it on set, where I almost fell off a cliff trying to remove my pants too quickly."

Anyone But You director apologizes for “misleading” marketing

“That was quite a whole ordeal with the spider that actually bit me,” Sweeney recounted. “And then there's the part where Glen bends over and I start checking for more spiders... I've definitely become very familiar with Glen now.”

Powell and Sweeney narrowly avoided death together, but that’s not the only setback for Anyone But You. The romcom’s teaser has faced backlash from fans who feel it doesn't accurately portray the movie's tone.

Co-writer/director Will Gluck has taken ownership for the marketing misstep, stating, "I take the blame for this. The teaser didn't resonate well and that's on me. We tried to get too clever with it."

"It's a hilarious comedy," he explained. "If you only saw that teaser, you might wonder, 'Is someone going to die? Is this a thriller?' That was my mistake. I wanted viewers to be intrigued and ask, 'What is this?'" For the most recent TV and movie news and updates, visit Dexerto for full coverage.

Editor's P/S

As a Gen Z fan, I am excited about the upcoming romantic comedy "Anyone But You," starring Glen Powell and Sydney Sweeney. The near-death experience that Powell and Sweeney shared while filming a cliffside scene adds an element of thrill and danger to the movie, making it even more intriguing. It's great to see that the actors developed a strong bond after going through such a harrowing experience together.

However, I am disappointed with the misleading marketing campaign for the movie. The teaser trailer gives off a dark and suspenseful vibe, which is not an accurate representation of the film's tone. This has led to backlash from fans who feel like they were misled. I understand that the director wanted to create intrigue, but I think it backfired and may have caused some potential viewers to lose interest in the movie. I hope that the studio will release a new trailer that better reflects the actual tone of the film and helps to generate positive buzz.
