Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 players must open Modern Warfare 2 first to play the sequel, which can be a time-consuming process.
The early release of Modern Warfare 3 has been plagued by multiple issues, such as intrusive full-screen ads and a lackluster single-player campaign. Additionally, the process of launching Modern Warfare 3 takes a minimum of 70-90 seconds due to Activision's decision to merge all aspects with Modern Warfare 2, potentially rendering the campaign's initial delay not worthwhile.
Confirmed: In order to play the sequel, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, players are required to open Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 first. This forces gamers into a time-consuming process. The issue arises from Activision's decision to centralize all things Call of Duty within Modern Warfare 2, with Modern Warfare 3 being the first installment to fall under this umbrella.
Many Call of Duty fans were disappointed by the early release of Modern Warfare 3. Numerous problems immediately surfaced, including full-screen ads, a Disc Required error on the PS5 version, and a lackluster single-player campaign. While these issues are already causing significant concern, one particular problem with Modern Warfare 3 is not a result of its development. Instead, it stems from Activision's approach of consolidating all Call of Duty content into a single app.
According to PC Gamer's Morgan Park, players of Modern Warfare 3 on PC are required to launch Modern Warfare 2 first before being able to access the game. Park's report also includes a step-by-step video demonstrating the process. To take part in Modern Warfare 3's campaign mode, players must follow these instructions:
1. Open the Call of Duty HQ app.
2. Launch Modern Warfare 2.
Navigate to the Modern Warfare 3 tab in Modern Warfare 2 and select Campaign. This action prompts Modern Warfare 2 to notify the player that a game restart is required to begin playing Modern Warfare 3's campaign. Upon clicking the Proceed button in the prompt, the launch process will commence. After a brief period, Modern Warfare 3 will be successfully loaded.
How Much Time Do Gamers Spend Waiting To Play Modern Warfare 3?
Opening Modern Warfare 3 requires a significant amount of time, with Park stating that it takes at least 70-90 seconds. This duration is based on his personal experience and may be even longer for players who meet the game's recommended or minimum system requirements. The lengthy process is likely due to Activision's decision to consolidate all Call of Duty content under Modern Warfare 2. Unfortunately, this decision has made Modern Warfare 3 the first game to suffer from this time-consuming launch process. With the game becoming more widely available on November 10, many Call of Duty fans may find this troublesome. It remains to be seen if Activision will address or improve this issue for PC players, especially considering the game's massive 200GB storage requirement across all gaming platforms.
Scheduled to be released on November 10, 2023, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 (2023) by Activision follows the ongoing narrative of Captain Price, as introduced in the 2019 and 2022 installments of the game.

Editor's P/S
As an enthusiastic fan of the Call of Duty franchise, I am deeply disappointed by the lengthy launch time of Modern Warfare 3. The fact that players have to open Modern Warfare 2 first in order to access the sequel is not only time-consuming but also frustrating. It's clear that Activision's decision to merge all aspects of Call of Duty into Modern Warfare 2 has had a negative impact on the launch of Modern Warfare 3.
The lengthy launch time is just one of the many issues that have plagued Modern Warfare 3 since its early release. Other problems include intrusive full-screen ads, a lackluster single-player campaign, and a Disc Required error on the PS5 version. These issues have already caused significant concern among fans, and the lengthy launch time only adds to the frustration.
I urge Activision to address this issue as soon as possible. PC players deserve to be able to access Modern Warfare 3 quickly and easily, without having to go through the hassle of opening Modern Warfare 2 first. I hope that Activision will take steps to improve the launch process in the future, so that fans can enjoy the game without any unnecessary delays.
