Game-Changing Move: Ex-Xbox Exclusive Game Takes PlayStation 5 by Storm!

A highly anticipated game previously exclusive to Xbox consoles makes its debut on the PlayStation 5, delighting fans as it arrives just before its first-year anniversary

Highlights

Scorn, formerly an Xbox console exclusive, has now been released on the PlayStation 5, just days before its one-year anniversary.

Despite receiving underwhelming reviews, Scorn possesses redeeming attributes such as a captivating setting, ingenious puzzles, and an impressive art direction that draws inspiration from the legendary H.R. Giger.

Although the PS5 iteration of Scorn is priced comparably to its counterparts on Xbox and PC, it remains uncertain if it capitalizes on the console's cutting-edge 3D audio technology. Additionally, it encounters competition from other horror games that are slated to be released during the Halloween season.

Scorn, previously exclusive to Xbox consoles, is now available on the PlayStation 5. Its release on Sony's latest console comes just a few days before the first anniversary of Scorn's global launch.

When it comes to Xbox console exclusives, Ebb Software's first game didn't receive much praise. This can be attributed not only to the niche appeal of grotesque body horror games, but also to the negative reviews of Scorn. Critics pointed out various flaws, such as clunky combat, technical issues, and a detached premise that made it difficult for players to connect with the non-human protagonist.

Following the release of numerous Scorn patches that addressed major issues such as bugs that hindered progression, Ebb Software has finally brought their first-ever title to the PS5. The digital version of Scorn is available for $39.99 on the PlayStation Store, matching its pricing on Xbox consoles and PC. Additionally, a physical Deluxe Edition is available for $49.99, which includes the game, a steelbook case, a 192-page digital artbook, and a digital soundtrack.

Despite receiving mixed reviews, Scorn possesses redeeming qualities that entice players. Even critics who were skeptical of the game found themselves appreciating its captivating otherworldly environment and clever puzzles, which presented a satisfying challenge without becoming frustrating. Fans of the horror genre also commended Scorn's art direction, heavily influenced by the unsettling biomechanical designs of renowned Swiss artist Hans Ruedi Giger.

Despite receiving similar compliments, Scorn's sorrowful soundtrack does not seem to be optimized for the PS5 port to fully showcase the console's Tempest 3D AudioTech. Unlike other titles that promote this proprietary solution, the PlayStation Store listing for Scorn fails to mention its 3D audio capabilities.

Just like the PC and Xbox Series X/S versions, Scorn's PS5 port was released in October, adding to the spooky atmosphere of the game. However, this timing also puts Scorn in direct competition with other horror titles set to release before Halloween 2023, including Alan Wake 2, World of Horror, and a substantial Halloween update for Amnesia: The Bunker.

Scorn is available now for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.
