Fort Solis is an immersive psychological sci-fi thriller that unfolds in a secluded mining station on the recently colonized Red Planet. Boasting a stellar ensemble cast, including acclaimed actors such as Roger Clark (Red Dead Redemption 2), Julia Brown (The Last Kingdom), and Troy Baker (The Last of Us), this game offers players a captivating and suspenseful experience as they navigate the desolate tunnels and corridors of the once-inhabited station.
While the game mostly follows a linear storyline, player choices do have some impact on the ultimate outcome. Exploring the base reveals a plethora of collectibles and interactive items, allowing completionists to strive for a perfect 100% score. Furthermore, players can uncover a wealth of audio logs, emails, and video recordings, deepening their knowledge of Fort Solis, its mission, and the lives of its inhabitants.
This walkthrough contains significant spoilers, so players should proceed with caution.
The "Good" Ending
The optimal conclusion, or at least the improved one, is the outcome that the majority of players probably experienced initially. The game culminates in Jack being saved by a specialized military squad after a fierce and intense hand-to-hand combat against Wyatt. With his survival from the harrowing ordeal, it can be inferred that Jack has been safely evacuated.
Regrettably, it is impossible to save Jess from her gruesome fate. Even if the player successfully times all the required cues during her combat with Wyatt, she still sustains severe injuries and is ultimately killed, much to Jack's dismay. Additionally, there are no other significant choices that Jess can make in the third and fourth chapters that would enable her to survive the final showdown.
What some players may be unaware of is that there is an even worse ending than just Jess dying. Although many of the combat triggers have no real consequence, there is one sequence that, if not completed in time, can also lead to Jack's demise. This is how players can achieve the unfavorable ending.
The Very Bad Ending
In the worst possible outcome, commonly known as the very worst ending, both Jess and Jack tragically meet their demise, resulting in the death of everyone in the entire vicinity of Fort Solis.
After Jess's unfortunate demise, Jack, wounded and struggling, makes his way towards a small hangar that houses several LTV vehicles. It is in this location that he is destined to confront the game's arch-nemesis, Wyatt. However, if players fail to execute the necessary commands in time while Jack hobbles across the desolate wasteland towards the hangar entrance, Wyatt will catch up to him, leading to a confrontation between the two in the open field.
In this triggered cut scene, Jack's survival becomes impossible as both he and Wyatt sustain fatal injuries, resulting in their demise on the surface. The camera slowly pans out, marking the end of the scene as the closing credits begin. Fort Solis can be played on PC, PlayStation 5, and Mac platforms.
